Reaction: This one just barely made a profit, but with the poor performance of other recent drama films like Strawberry High and Excellent Women, the studio will definitely consider the tiny profit of this film as a success.
"Tom Holland is ever so slowly becoming a legitimate leading man, with him giving arguably his best performance to date in this one. Even then though he is easily over-shadowed by Nicholas Hamilton's more aggressive and reckless performance. The story itself was kind of bland, but the overall package still mostly worked." - Charles Triano, Los Angeles Times
"The plot lacks focus for much of its running time. This meandering can work in novel form, but in a film format that type of storytelling simply does not work. This lollygagging approach wastes a handful of really strong performances from the cast." - Dave Manning, The Ridgefield Press
"The story of That Was Then, This Is Now really doesn't start working until pretty late into proceedings. Prior to the death of one particular character there never seemed to be any goals or urgency for the characters - which is a pretty big problem." - Allen Poole, AV Club
Rated PG-13 for violence, some language and thematic material
