While the streak of profitable films continued this round, there were no giant X-Men-sized hits, unfortunately. Here's The Roundup....
3. AntarcticaWhile I definitely have some problems with the film, it was absolutely a step in the right direction for writer Wyatt Allen. This second film from the writer was much more streamlined, and definitely more successful at the box office. Hopefully that is a sign of future things to come from Allen.
2. Observance
Easily the best film of the round, this little thriller does a lot with a little. The script by Chad Taylor easily pumps up the tension and provides Margaret Qualley with her best role to date.
1. Profits
Make that six profitable films in a row for the studio...
3. Profits
Yes, it is good that we have had a handful of profitable films in a row now, but the three films from this round - outside of Antarctica - did not bring hit box office money to the table for the studio.
2. Antarctica
The film was undeniably successful, but I did find the film too cold and lacking in backstory of the characters. Maybe if we had gotten to know the characters a bit better, their deaths would have hit harder.
1. Aliens vs. Predator: The Long War
This one delivered in the action and alien department, but there were way too many characters that nobody cares about. The film could have used a lot more focus on Gemma Chan's character since she is the lone prior cast member, but the story became more occupied with killing generic crew members instead.
