Reaction: The film's biggest name, Cate Blanchett, despite being highly acclaimed, is not exactly a box office draw - which definitely hurt the box office prospects of this one a little bit. We were honestly hoping it would do a little better than it did, but it wasn't exactly an easy film for the marketing department.
"The Water Cure is a thriller that is a bit too light on thrills to be marketed as such, although it is tense throughout and anchored by some strong performances including one from Haley Bennett that could finally put her into the leading lady conversation." - Ben Bernard, New York Times
"There's a lot to unwrap in The Water Cure. The scenes in the film alternate between taut tension and over-the-top preposterousness. Some of the more ridiculous moments surely worked better on the page of the novel than on the big screen. While there was plenty that didn't work in the film, there was a bit more that did." - Geoff Bray, Slant Magazine
"The Water Cure can be ridiculous and pretentious. It was never boring, but it also very rarely dives beneath the surface of its characters with its simplistic and pessimistic view of the gender roles of its characters." - Brenton Smalls, Playboy
