Reaction: Positive word of mouth and star power tend to be important for the box office chances of lower-budgeted drama films - this film didn't get that, so it is understandable that it struggled financially. Plus, none of the brands featured by the filmmakers did not contribute toward the budget of the film, so we couldn't bank on that either.

"Part melodrama and part infomercial, Tough Girl is a meandering story about uninteresting people who think that they are interesting. The actors do what they can with the writing, but there isn't much of a story and certainly nobody worth rooting for." - Tim Durand, San Francisco Chronicle

"Just when it seemed like Alex Conn's work was improving over the last couple seasons and it looked like he may have turned a bit of a corner as a writer, he throws a film like this out into the world. Obnoxious characters and product placement galore result in something that makes Hippies in New York look like a masterpiece by comparison." - Dave Manning, The Ridgefield Press

"It felt like the worst of Tyler Perry, Tommy Wiseau & Neil Breen tried to make a Lifetime Channel movie together, which I kinda enjoyed. The movie makes no original, emotional or insightful piece of work with a premise that could work if I gave a damn anyone did anything at all. Since no one does anything with any rhyme or reasoning... P.S. I see what everyone says about the product placement now." - Aubrey-Jade Mitchell, The Sun

Rated R for language, drug use and sexual content
