Reaction: Definitely not what the studio was hoping for to round out the first round of Season 21 as the loss on this film nearly cancels out the profits earned by Wolf and Resident Evil 4.

"The film has an entertaining cast and the plot is coherent enough. I know that sounds like faint praise - and it is. There are a handful of individual scenes and sequences that really work, but the overall package is too much of a jumble at times that often feels like a comedy sketch mixed with a military procedural. I really do respect what writer Jacob Jones was trying to go for with this film, the pieces from disparate genres and styles though kept it from working as well as it could have." - Stephen Bonds, San Francisco Chronicle

"Rookie's Road is a mess of genres, performers and ideas that just don't mesh well together. On paper, this one looked promising, but the tone of the film is all over the map. The film couples super serious thespians with inexperienced actors and comedic beefcakes that results in a catastrophic lack of chemistry from the ensemble." - Evan Kane, Buffalo News

“A fatal flaw in the marketing of this film is saying a sub-genre is comedy. Not once did I find myself laughing. I could see the ’twist’ coming from a mile away. The cast was somewhat miscast and, in some cases, underutilized. I could not see Adam Driver in the role whatsoever. The writing isn’t overly bad, just some patches in the story.” - Jharrel Romano, MovieMedia.com

Rated R for violence and language
