Reaction: It seems clear to us at the studio that this film managed to be a success despite its dark content and somewhat obscure subject matter thanks to strong word of mouth and the star power of Bradley Cooper (who has a nice little box office streak going right now).

"The story of Roy Radin is one of amazing highs and tragic lows and The Producer does a superb job covering every minute detail. Bradley Cooper excels as the titular producer who is always looking for that next high, no matter what the cost. I can understand why some may be turned off by it, this isn't your standard-issue biopic where the character goes through a struggle before breaking big, this is a tale of an opportunist who flew far too close to the sun and faced an untimely death." - Mitchell Parker, New York Times

"Bradley Cooper once again knocks the ball out of the park, this time on both sides of the camera. In just his second film as star-director, Cooper continued to show that he Cooper the director is capable of pushing Cooper the actor into dark, emotional and morally complex places. The script by Lon Charles is equally good, managing to avoid falling into the standard biopic tropes. Charles has had a lot of strong films in his career, but this one manages to be one of his best written." - Dave Manning, Ridgefield Press

"The Producer somehow makes you care about a drug addicted, morally bankrupt opportunist. That is a testament to the strong work from writer Lon Charles, and star/director Bradley Cooper. If that weren't enough already, Cooper is surrounded in this Hollywood fever dream by a colorful motley crew of supporting talents like Matt Dillon as the egomaniacal producer Robert Evans and Shailene Woodley as a cocaine queenpin with her three henchmen (Manganiello, McElhenney, Caan)."- Chrissy Lane, Manhattan Mercury
