Reaction: Total box office gross and profits have been sinking with each entry, which is never a great sign. That said, the film was still pretty successful, so we're not worried yet, but we do help the trend does not continue with a fourth entry.
"Eric Bana is sorely missed in this one. Sure, he has two brief appearances, but the first film worked so well due to his adversarial role opposite Christian Bale's Gunslinger. I haven't read the book series, but I am sorely hoping for some more conflict in future entries in the series that films II and III have lacked."- Ron Gardocki, Los Angeles Express
"Director Matt Reeves and writer Matt Parker were definitely not working from one of the better novels in the series with The Waste Lands. That said, they do manage to keep things visually epic, but the story itself is pretty slight. The mental woes of Roland and Jake and Jake's cross back over to the fantasy world were the highlights of the film for me."- Roger Taggart, Chicago Tribune
"I understand a lot of the issues with this film are from the source material, but the filmmaking team of director Matt Reeves and writer Matt Parker should do a better job of cutting through Stephen King's extra-nonsense and stick with the compelling journey of the Gunslinger. This film fails to get into a rhythm at all. While the second one also wasn't as good as the first film, at least at got into a rhythm. This one was just confusing." - Katie Barnes, Washington Herald
Rated R for violence, language and drug content
