Reaction: This Green Lantern Corps spin-off still turned out to be a very big hit, even if there was a noticeable and sizable drop at the box office - most likely due to less brand awareness and the lack of Tom Cruise's name on the marquee.
"Red Lantern Corps delivers cosmic-scale action grounded by personal stakes. The film is anchored by Idris Elba's vocal performance as the vengeful Atrocitus and John Boyega's nuanced, grief-stricken John Stewart. Director Fede Alvarez does a good job of balancing intense characters with big action. The real surprise, however, comes in the form of two scene-stealers: G'Nort and Ch'p. They inject some much-needed levity, with their quirky dynamic offering a delightful counterpoint to a film filled with heavier themes. Can we please get a buddy film with those two?" - Dave Manning, Ridgefield Press
"An epic and ambitious superhero film that reinvents the Red Lantern Corps mythos, offering a fresh—albeit darker—perspective. Under Fede Álvarez’s direction, the tone is grittier and more intense than traditional Green Lantern stories. The script merges space opera with emotional depth, crafting a revenge-driven narrative that, while compelling, occasionally feels stretched too thin or unbalanced in parts." - Homer Willard, GQ
"Fede Alvarez and crew had a tall task ahead of them following up not just the spectacular Sinestro War, but being the first DC movie post-Justice League War as well. In the absence of Cruise and McQuarrie, Red Lantern Corps. inevitably feels like a slight step down but the action still dazzles. One thing that felt fresh about this installment is its willingness to play in the moral gray area between its various factions of good, evil, and somewhere in between. In terms of newcomers, Sean William Scott as Guy Gardner is a stroke of casting genius, but he certainly felt underutilized amongst everything going on here—hopefully the ending indicates there is more of him to come" - Reggie Coscarelli, San Fernando Valley Sun
Rated PG-13 for intense sequences of sci-fi violence and action, thematic elements, and brief strong language
