In this edition of Interview, Last Resort Films president Phil Dolan interviews the most newest writer to have a film produced, Meirad Tako. His first film, Drake, debuted to disastrous results at the end of last Season. Now he is back with his second film, the sci-fi tale The Two Souls.
PD: What can you tell us about your experience as one of the newer writers in the Last Resort Films community?
MT: I feel nothing but excited. Nothing had make me like this before, I wrote the script and wait for days until my film is release. It's fun you know.
PD: Your first film for the studio, Drake, was a pretty big disappointment. What have you learned from that experience?
MT: For me Drake wasn't a big disapointment. Instead I was quite happy it only lost 9 million (if I'm not mistaken). What I've learned from that is, don't hope to your favorite director so much if your script is not suitable for him.
*Editor's note: Drake actually lost $24,627,851 for the studio.
PD: As a writer, what interests you more: box office success or critical acclaim and awards?
MT: My interest as a writer are not all of 'em actually. My goal is to make people happy. I mean, satisfied about the film. So even if the film is not a blockbuster or doesn't get any reward, I'm happy and satisfied about it. Critic reviews are the thing that I always wait to see, it's really fun to see (or read) what people that 'study' the film said.
PD: What are some of your favorite films released by the studio?
MT: My favorite films from the studio are Batman: Gotham Knight (I never imagined getting a really good Batman after Nolan's films), The Divine Comedy Trilogy (I really love it. I even contacted Mr. Buck to ask when the Paradiso part of it will come out).
PD: What's next for you?
MT: If you ask me 'What's next' I have so many to give. I have Merdeka that (maybe) releases next season. Then I have Stan (an adaptation of Eminem's song), a spin-off to the Evangelion series, my most anticipated film Alternative and my series 'Great Story From The Past'
