Reaction: Our first real attempt at tapping into the young adult adaptation marketplace turned into a success. The marketing department deserves a lot of credit here as we tried a very targeted marketing approach that focused on attracting the teen girls who were likely to be the primary audience - and it worked.
"The book is supposedly better, but I didn't mind the movie. The young actors, while some were a little long in the tooth, are all very talented and make their characters likable even when the writing (or the source material) lets them down." - Alonzo Lane, The Star-Ledger
"For a movie featuring her name in the title, the character of Alaska is pretty irrelevant until the last stretch. Clearly they were trying to go for a "manic pixie dream girl" type of angle, but not enough time is spent developing the character to make us care - especially in the end when she is supposed to be missed." - Dave Cone, New York Post
"What was apparently so controversial in book form, has become a fairly pedestrian film with an awkward structure and some actors way too old to be playing high schoolers." - Chris Mears, Slashfilm
