Reaction: While not a big hit, it is especially nice that this film made a decent little profit given its R-rating and fairly expensive price tag (as well as the recent ups and downs of the box office).

"The script from rookie writer Jimmy Ellis is full of cartoonish characters, underdeveloped characters and absurd twists and turns. The idea isn't bad, it's just that the execution is a bit too much of a mish-mash of tropes to work on its own merits." - Charles Triano, Los Angeles Times

"Clint Eastwood has crafted a real masculine throwback to 80s military movies. Jared Leto chews up the scenery, as usual, as the embodiment of the Cold War red menace." - Allen Poole, AV Club

"While the platoon of heroes are essentially cardboard cutouts, the story is fun and full of some surprisingly bloody action and some over-the-top villains." - Geoff Bray, Slant Magazine

Rated R for graphic war violence and some strong language.
