The Roundup with Jeff Stockton (Season 12 Round 1)

And we're on to Season 12, folks. For the first time this season, here's The Roundup....
3. Debra Winger
It's been a long time since she's had a prominent role in a major motion picture, and it's been long overdue. She has made something of a comeback in recent years on the Netflix series "The Ranch" (which isn't terrible, I must admit), but this is definitely the best work she's done is some time.

2. Spawn 2

Spawn 2 is a solid sequel to a solid film. Ray Winstone was great as Cogliostro. I wonder how they ever came up with such a great casting idea....

1. Anna Kendrick
She gives the performance of her career in this solid, if a bit simplistic, thriller. From playing blind to being captured and fighting back, she runs the gamut in this one.
3. Lily James
The complexities of a role like the titular character in Orchid may simply be a bit out of Lily James' range at this point in her career. She certainly isn't terrible in the role, and she clearly gives it her all, but the role was clearly not an easy one for her.

2. Spawn 2
I enjoyed the film, but I just couldn't get on board with some of the casting decisions, namely Michael Chiklis and Oliver Platt. I love Oliver Platt, probably more than most, but he was really not all that believable as an intimidating mafia boss.

1. Joseph Gordon-Levitt
I have been a bit underwhelmed by his performances of late. He is best when he can channel his anger, as seen in roles like Manic, Mysterious Skin, Inception, and The Dark Knight Rises. I, for one, don't really buy him in roles that have him act in a romantic manner.
