Reaction: Liam Hemsworth has had multiple chances at leading big budget films at this point, but he is now 0-for-3 (The Refugee, Alternative, Road Rash) at the box office (and 0-for-his-last-4 if you count his supporting turn in last season's Unknown). The film would have actually lost a lot more money than it did, but the home video sales for the film have been surprisingly strong.

"The Refugee is a film that doesn't commit enough to any of its genres. It's a sci-fi film with very little science fiction, and a fantasy film with very few fantastical elements. Perhaps a strong, likable actor in the lead role could have elevated the material - instead we get the hunky, but wooden, Liam Hemsworth." - Olive Carroll, Houston Chronicle

"The Refugee was a confusing film with pretty, but uncharismatic and leaden lead characters. The always competent action direction from Martin Campbell keeps the film from being a complete failure, instead settling for being a sometimes fun but slight misfire." - Jason Helm, New York Observer

"The film certainly has some issues, but I'll tell you this much: I was never bored. Between the exciting battle and fight scenes and the gloriously over the top supporting performances (looking at you Cillian Murphy and Malcolm McDowell), I had a really good time with The Refugee." - Brenton Smalls, Playboy

Rated R for strong violence including torture and scenes of peril.
