Reaction: Definitely not the numbers we were hoping for this DC Comics Universe film. Black Lightning has supplanted Vixen: The Totems of Zambesi as the lowest grossing entry in the DC Comics Universe. It's a disappointing outcome, but we are thankful that the film didn't lose us any money.
"Black Lightning is an action movie, minus all the excitement usually found in the genre. The action sequence, which are few and far between, are not very original and don't make very interesting use of the hero's superpowers." - Ben Bernard, New York Times
"Writer Jimmy Ellis and Director Steven Caple Jr. do a good job painting a picture of Brick City, making the setting feel realistic (in a comic book sense). Trevante Rhodes may be a bit green for such a prominent role, but he handles himself well." - Ken Decker, Denver Post
"The film never builds up any forward momentum. Between the insanely long flashback sequence, scenes of people talking that don't move the plot forward and the uncharismatic performances, Black Lightning never gets shows any spark." - Alonzo Lane, The Star-Ledger
Rated PG-13 for intense action violence and thematic material
