Reaction: Excellent numbers for the highly anticipated Superman film. While it didn't reach the insane heights of the Booster Gold and Batman sequels, it did better than each of the first entries in those highly successful series.

"Most Superman films have lacked in the action set pieces, but that's not always the case here. The climactic battle perhaps felt a bit too standard, but it's not every day that you get to see Superman rip apart a nuclear bomb. Hopefully they give even bigger and better action beats in the inevitable sequel." - Michael Carthage, Associated Press

"I honestly didn't know what to expect from a John Malone scripted Superman film, but the results feel very predictable leaving the theater. Malone's adaptations obviously have a strong track record of often elevating the material and giving a different take than we've seen before. He does that here, giving us a familiar feeling Superman film, while also giving us things we've never seen in any other Superman film." - Perry Manson, CinemaBlend.com

"Aidan Turner's Superman has a weary edge to him that we haven't seen before, creating a character that feels very human, despite his alien DNA. This suits Jeff Nichols' more naturalist directorial style well. The film was cast full of talented actors who are able to disappear into their roles, while making them feel like realistic versions of their comic counterparts." - Clark Davis, JoBlo.com

Rated PG-13 for intense sci-fi/fantasy action, some language, and scenes of peril.
