Last Resort Films has had a pretty good run of late, so let's explore it in The Roundup....
3. Jeff Nichols
After his interesting, but unsuccessful, debut for LRF Animus, Nichols has managed quite the streak of great (and successful films) with the Scion trilogy, Superman: The Man of Tomorrow, and now Coma. He has definitely established himself as an A-List director with this one.
2. Coma
Coma was a great thriller, plain and simple. The plot moved quickly and the story did a good job of keeping its cards close to its vest as I was never sure who the true villain was until the reveal. Plus, it provided a great female lead role for Elizabeth Olsen.
1. Excalibur
I LOVED Excalibur. Great casting. Plus, between the vision of director Nicolas Winding Refn, the entertaining script by Roy Horne, and the haunting electronic soundtrack, this one felt like a truly unique film even though it is a remake and based on a legendary, well-known story.
3. Franchises
This season has been a rare season in that the box office hasn't been dominated by the studio's various franchises, but rather by a string of very profitable mid-budget films.
2. Talking Dogs
I knew I was definitely not into the new Maximum Ride film when the dog started talking...
1. Maximum Ride: School's Out Forever
Speaking of which, I did not care for this film. It's probably more a case of me not being the target audience than it being completely awful. I don't recall especially hating the first film, but this one felt like a poor follow-up that moves away from the more entertaining aspects of the first film.
