Season 18 is upon us at last! As usual, I have some thoughts, here's The Roundup....
3. Soundtracks
Some seasons are not very competitive in the Best Soundtrack category, but my sources with
the studio say that the two soundtracks already released in Round 1 are just the tip of the iceberg. This season will reportedly set the record for most soundtracks in one season.
2. The Black Cat
While I missed some of the action set-pieces I've come to expect from the studio's superhero output, I thought that writer Chad Taylor captured the characters and the world very well with this one.
1. Gerard Butler
After making his LRF debut just last season in The Smoke in the Red Country, star Gerard Butler is clearly here to stay. He was awesome as Kraven the Hunter. Hopefully we'll get to see more of his Kraven in future Marvel Universe releases.
3. Box Office
The Black Cat saved the round, but with the heavy losses sustained by The Vegan Movie 2 and Less, there wasn't much profit to be found. I'm hoping the box office will be a bit more balanced this season and not just rely on a couple blockbusters to save the season.
2. Less
Less could have used less. It was all over the place. Too many characters, too many locations, too many flashbacks. I had a lot of trouble keeping track of what was going on in this one.
1. The Vegan Movie 2
Oh boy... Did Alex Conn write this movie simply to troll me? Because it sure seems so. Is the entire message of the movie that McDonalds is great? Was it just a McDonalds commercial all along? The film seemed to care more about the product placements than devising an actual story for its characters. Also, never once did the film's script tell us that Sarah Lawrence is a college! The word college is only uttered once, and it isn't even referring to Sarah Lawrence College! Those unfamiliar with the college or its local geography will probably need to use Google just to find out what it is. I feel like Conn probably had fun writing this, but I certainly didn't have fun in the audience.
