No box office bombs, but profits were few and far between in this second round of the 18th season. Here's The Roundup....
3. Care of Death
The film isn't perfect, but it was still fun. I think the script became over-complicated at times. Horror, to me at least, is a genre that works best when it doesn't get too complicated.
2. Lock Every Door
Way too many characters and scenes that go nowhere, and it jumps around in time WAY TOO MUCH. That said, the main group of performers were all entertaining and well cast (Johnson, Grace, Hauser, Pike, Heughan).
1. Lowell
I enjoyed Lowell a lot. First of all, it was nice to see Affleck and Damon on the big screen again finally - and as foes no less. While the plot felt like a bit of a retread, the period setting and details helped set the film apart.
3. Soundtracks
I guess the downside to having a higher number of soundtracks for a season is that the number of bad soundtracks is bound to increase as well. As it stands so far, only half of the soundtracks have been good, in my opinion, so far.
2. Box Office
While all three films did make a profit this round, it wasn't by much. I reckon this film could really use a few....
1. Blockbusters
I'm already getting the sense that this season is going to be light on blockbusters. Two rounds into the season and we haven't even had a film that has cost $100+ million. The most expensive film so far is Lowell, a period crime-drama. Sure, we had a cost effective Marvel Universe film, but it's those big blockbusters that tend to bring in the big blockbuster money, not the modestly budgeted superhero film.
