The Roundup with Jeff Stockton (Season 19 Round 1)

Welcome to Season 19 and the the season's first edition of The Roundup....

3. Box Office
The studio is off to a very strong start at the box office after one round. There are definitely some riskier films on the horizon (Round 3 looks especially bleak with no blockbuster fare).

2. Task Force X
I didn't love the film, but it was still fun. It was nice to see Hong Chau's Lady Shiva again after her memorable appearances in the Question series.

1. Kansas City
I enjoyed Kansas City a good deal. It was very well cast, and David Robert Mitchell was a strong choice to direct. This would have made for a much better follow-up to Death Dream than Parasite was.

3. N/A

2. Task Force X
Of the 40 films in the DC Comics Universe and all of the villains who appeared in them, I honestly was disappointed in the group chosen by the filmmakers. On top of that, new characters like Black Spider, Kate Spencer and David Cain really didn't stand out much to me.

1. Princess Natalie

It's certainly not a train-wreck - and at least it made sense sober unlike Whammy. This was an especially strong opening round to Season 19, but if I have to nitpick - Princess Natalie was my least favorite of the three entries. The tone of the story felt mixed up, almost like it was a combination of two separate stories (a jokey one about talking Russian animals, and another film about Russian princes fighting over a girl). Like I said, I'm definitely nitpicking here since there really isn't much to complain about this round. And hey, it made a bunch of money - which is always nice.
