Plot: Oldenbrook, Kansas. Yorick Brown (Jack Reynor), Agent 355 (Tessa Thompson) and Dr. Allison Mann (Constance Wu) notice a craft falling from the sky off in the distance. Yorick ponders aloud if that crazy Russian lady from the train was telling the truth all along. After hearing the crash and seeing a plume of smoke, the three begin running toward it. When they arrive they find the landing pod crashed into a wooded area. 355 pries open the door. Inside, as soon as the air comes in from the door, the two male astronauts quickly die from the plague. Dr. Ciba Weber (Lauren Ambrose) sits inside in shock watching the men she loves die. 355 yells for help. Yorick rushes over and helps Ciba out of the pod. Allison is stunned to see that Ciba is very pregnant. Agent 355 says that they shouldn't stay in the area as the crash and smoke are likely to bring curious people around. Just like clockwork, she hears rustling in the woods nearby. She aims her gun in the direction as Natalya (Svetlana Khodchenkova) emerges from the trees. She sees Ciba, but continues moving to the pod. 355 gets in her path and Natalya fights back, revealing herself to be a gifted fighter. During the fight, Natalya insists that her brother is in the pod - back in Russia he was a very famous astronaut. 355 relents and lets Natalya go to the pod. When she sees the two men dead inside she sits down next to Ciba and cries. She then asks Ciba if her brother is the father of the child she is carrying. Ciba hangs her head and says that she loved both men, so she is not sure. Commenting on the other dead man being black, Yorick says that Natalya know pretty soon if she's an aunt or not. 355 and Allison give Yorick a dirty look that he shrugs off.

Marrisville, Ohio. Israeli Colonel Alter Tse-elon (Gal Gadot) receives another call from the mysterious woman who told him about Yorick. Not having found Yorick in Marrisville, Alter becomes angry with the woman, demanding to know why the man is important to her or she will take her troops back to Tel Aviv. The voice then tells Alter that she is the only mother in the world who still has her son and wants her safe with him. The voice then properly introduces herself as President Jennifer Brown (Julianne Moore). Alter asks why she isn't using her own government to recover her son. Jennifer says that she has recently learned that the agency that was supposed to be protecting Yorick - Culper Ring - is actually made up of assassins, so now she is concerned that Agent 355 may try to kill him. Jennifer then tells Alter that Yorick is now just outside Oldenbrook, Kansas. Alter asks how she could possibly know that. Jennifer then reveals that she had a tracking device injected into Yorick's monkey. Alter quickly orders her troops to ready the helicopter and prepare to fly toward the state of Kansas. Alter then suggests to her troops that they kidnap Yorick and take him to Israel instead of back to his mother in D.C. to ensure the future of Israel.

Yorick and 355 dig a grave for the male astronauts while Allison checks on the health of Ciba and her unborn baby. Natalya sets up a camp fire for the group to camp around that night. In the morning, thet find Alter and her troops aiming their guns at them. Alter announces that they are there for the man. Allison and 355 step between Alter and Yorick, but Yorick volunteers to come along peacefully. 355 tells Yorick to shut up and offers Alter two men instead. Alter handcuffs Yorick. Allison gives 355 a nervous look. 355 goes on to explain that the pregnant astronaut came down with two male astronauts who are asleep in the pod - injured but alive. Alter's troops go look inside, and 355 uses the chance to attack and disarm a couple of them. She then tosses Natalya and Allison a gun each. Allison quietly confesses she doesn't know how to work it. 355 tells her to aim it at Alter. Yorick manages to escape his restraints and hits Alter over the back of the head, knocking her out. 355 suggests they all get out of the area and continue on their journey to Allison's lab in California. Ciba says that she wants to go see what's left of the family in Illinois. Yorick asks Natalya if she's going to come with them, but she tells them that since Ciba may be carrying the only family she has left in her womb she feels she must follow Ciba and protect her.

Cooksfield, California. Yorick, 355, Allison and Ampersand the monkey have finally made it to California, stopping just outside the first town they come across to camp for the night. Once Allison and 355 are asleep. Yorick sneaks away from the camp to explore the town, wearing his hood and gas mask. The only lights on in town are at a small Catholic church. Yorick enters and asks if he can make a confession, but he doesn't see anyone inside. Yorick explores the building when he is confronted by a woman, coincidentally named Beth (Lucy Fry), holding a lighter and a can of hairspray. She sets him on fire. Yorick tosses off his hood and mask and begins stomping out the fire. Beth II is shocked to see a man, and while not a priest agrees to listen to him if he wants to unburden himself of his sins. Yorick tells her about his adventures since the plague hit and that they're one their way to San Francisco so Dr. Mann can figure out why he's still alive. After telling his story Yorick then kisses Beth II. She then climbs on top of him and they have sex on a church pew. Afterward, Yorick feels guilty and confesses that he has a girlfriend, also named Beth, that is stuck in the Australian Outback.

Somewhere in the Australian Outback. Beth Deville (Samara Weaving) is being held captive by a village of Aboriginal women along with a ground of other women. One of them claims they're going to be eaten, but Beth insists that there is no anthropological evidence to suggest that any aboriginal culture has ever committed cannibalism. She thinks for a moment, then comments to herself that all of that history would have been before the plague though. Deprived of food and water, Beth hallucinates Yorick breaking her out of her chains. When she wakes up she finds that her chains have in fact been unlocked. She suddenly believes that Yorick must still be alive.

Hero Brown (Mackenzie Davis) is let out of jail by the women of Marrisville on the condition that she not join anymore whacked-out cults. Hero nods and heads east. She eventually makes it to Washington D.C. where she visits her mother. Jennifer tells Hero that Yorick is still alive, or at least she thinks he's still alive. Hero tells her mother that she's seen Yorick and offers to help find him and bring him home. Jennifer tells Hero that the tracking device in Yorick's monkey tracks them to Cooksfield, California. Jennifer gives Hero the tracker and tells her to make sure Yorick is save - humanity depends on it. Jennifer then gives her daughter a hug.

San Francisco, California. Yorick, 355, Allison and Ampersand manage to make it to Allison's lab. After running countless tests on both Yorick and Ampersand, Allison finally thinks she knows how Yorick survived the "gendercide" as she has decided to call it. Yorick asks how. Allison begins going into a highly technical explanation, but Yorick interrupts her and asks her to explain it without all the techno-babble. Allison proposes that something inside Ampersand produced a kind of antibody that spared him from the plague, and Yorick was passed along that antibody through feculence. It takes Yorick a minute, but he then finally realizes that Allison said that he's immune because of Ampersand's monkey shit. He asks her how Ampersand could have the antibodies, and she says he could have born with them or they could have been manufactured. Either way, Allison is excited since now that she knows how they survived she is closer to discovering what caused the plague in the first place.

While out gathering supplies, 355 runs into Hero. They engage in a fight, which leaves Hero injured. 355 begrudginly brings Hero back to the lab so Yorick can decide what should be done with her. While Allison is patching up an unconscious Hero, Yorick and 355 are talking on the roof of the lab. Meanwhile, a ninja, Toyota (Rila Fukushima), has broken into the lab. She demands that Allison hand over the monkey. When Allison says no, Toyota unsheaths her katana sword and makes the command again. Toyota moves toward Ampersand's cage, but Allison gets in the way. Toyota slashes Allison's arm and throws the monkey into a bag and escapes the building. When Yorick and 355 come back they find Mann bleeding on the floor and Ampersand gone. When Hero wakes up, she apologizes to Yorick - she understands how important he is. Yorick says that he's not important, his monkey is, and some ninja lady stole him. Hero reveals that their mother had put a tracking device in the monkey - that's how she was able to track him all the way to California. Hero pulls the transponder out of her bag and tells Yorick to use it to find his precious monkey.

355 and Yorick follow the tracker onto the Golden Gate Bridge where Toyota is trying to get Ampersand to eat a piece of fruit. As rain pours down, 355 pulls a gun on Toyota and demands the monkey back. Toyota goes for her sword, so 355 shoots her twice in the chest. Thinking the ninja is dead, 355 lets her guard down. Toyota suddenly leaps up and throws ninja stars at 355, knocking the gun out of her hand. Toyota then slashes 355 with her sword several times while 355 uses a baton to try to fend off the blade. Toyota manages to knock 355 down and is about to execute her when a gun shot rings out, hitting Toyota's sword and shattering it. Hero yells at Toyota to freeze or the next one will be aimed for her face. Toyota throws a smoke bomb down, using the cover of smoke to escape with Ampersand. Yorick and Hero carry a bleeding 355 back to Allison's lab. While Allison is treating 355's wounds, Hero tells Yorick that she plans on heading back out east in the morning. Yorick says that he has a letter for a woman named Beth in Cooksfield, California, if she'd be willing to deliver it for him. In the morning, Yorick finds that Hero has left. He confesses to 355 that last night was probably the longest he and his sister have gotten along their entire life. They pack up their things, and then Yorick, 355 and Allison follow the transponder south along the Pacific Coast.

San Diego, California. Yorick, 355 and Allison find that the dot has disappeared from the screen once they've arrived at the Port of San Diego. They ask a woman if any ships left that morning. The woman tells them that one left a few hours ago for some place called Yokogata. Allison is shocked. Yorick asks her what's wrong. Allison says Yokogata is a small Japanese port city where her mother lives. 355 suggests they find a boat heading across the Pacific.

The three manage to find passage on a ship thanks to the demand of Allison's medical training, although 355 and Allison have to smuggle Yorick on board in a crate. That night in their room, while Yorick is asleep, 355 catches Allison staring at her. 355 asks if she wants to kiss or something with the way she's staring at her. Allison says and kisses 355. Yorick wakes up to find 355 and Allison in bed together naked.

Allison is asked to treat the wounds of a prisoner on the ship. She is taken to a holding cell containing Rose Copen (Sophie Lowe), who the crew is convinced she is a spy when she uncovered a crate full of heroin. Rose tells Allison that she is spy, but one of the good guys. She works for the Australian government and they are trying to keep heroin from coming into the country from ships like this. She then tells Allison that a submarine will be coming soon to attack this ship, but if Allison helps her escape Rose can guarantee safe passage for Allison and her friends to wherever they need. Allison tells Yorick and 355 about Rose, but they're not sure what to think until they feel the ship rocked by an explosion. Realizing that Rose must be telling the truth about at least that much, they go down to where Rose is being kept. Yorick uses his lock-picking skill to unlock the holding cell. They race off the ship and activate an inflatable rescue raft. They watch from the raft as the ship sinks into the middle of the Pacific Ocean. Suddenly a submarine rises to the surface near them.

Sydney, Australia.
The submarine stops off to refuel in Sydney. Yorick quickly races off the craft. 355 and Allison ask what his hurry is, and Yorick says that Beth could be here. 355 follows Yorick while Allison and Rose wait on the submarine. Rose asks Allison if she's a lesbian. Allison doesn't feel comfortable answering the question, but Rose says she can tell she is. Rose undresses in front of Allison, who then does the same. While making out, Allison tells Rose that she should come with them to Japan. Allison falls asleep after their sexual act. Rose then goes to the radio room and tells her superior that she has infiltrated the group.

Washington D.C. Alter Tse-elon breaks into Jennifer Brown's office and shoots her for causing her so much trouble for what amount to a family matter. The first shot doesn't fully kill Jennifer, and she begins crawling across the floor. Alter follows Jennifer and shoots her in the head, killing her.
