Reaction: Death of the Artist is a rare LRF box office dud featuring star Casey Affleck. It's not exactly how we wanted to begin the season's final round, but we hope that Sinatra and Justice League Unlimited will more than make up for the losses on this one.

"While the setting feels a bit half-baked, Death of the Artist can claim to be the home of yet another strong emotional performance from Casey Affleck. The film may not have worked without his performance. When he and his character are on the screen you forget about the vagueness of the plot and the world it is set in and just focus on the emotions." - Jeremy Raren, RottenTomatoes.com

"Though the performances and Kenneth Lonergan's direction are on point with what's needed, the story itself is a little been-there-done-that with some things not fully developed plot-wise." - Avery Wendell, IndieWire

"Death of the Artist feels like a shell of an idea that is never fully explored. We learn very little of the dystopian setting, or even the characters' backgrounds. I imagine this was a conscious choice on the part of the filmmakers, but it is a choice that didn't work for me."   - Albert Perry, Orange County Register

Rated PG-13 for thematic material, brief violent images and some language
