Reaction: Without any remotely well-known actors and a controversial subject matter, this one was always going to be a risky proposition at the box office. On the plus side, not having any well-known actors did keep the budget very low, minimizing the potential losses.
"If We Know the Right Way shows us a new side of writer (and now director) Meirad Tako. This film is a low-key drama about a young man pushed/nudged into terrorism. It doesn't pull any punches and is unafraid of the audience hating the characters in the end." - Gillian Donaldson, Variety
"It's a pretty daring choice to make a serious dramatic film where the 'hero' slowly becomes a terrorist/suicide-bomber. The journey is interesting, although the ending is perhaps a bit too bleak even if it suits the story." - Samuel O'Brien, Sight and Sound
"The screenplay from Meirad Tako (who also directed the film) did not do nearly enough to make us care his characters here and what they end up doing. They often felt too much like plot devices to get the story going toward the ending that Tako clearly desired." - Mark Rawls, Seattle Times
Rated R for violence, language and thematic material
