With the release of Without Remorse, we are going to take a special look at the movies Last Resort Films has released based on books.
Invisible Monsters
Season 1 - Round 2
A complete disaster. The film debuted to weak reviews and is still the studio's biggest box office bomb. Despite the poor response, it managed two Golden Reel nominations, both for Best Supporting Actress, with Elisabeth Moss ultimately taking home the trophy.
The Dead Zone
Season 1 - Round 2
A box office hit with fairly solid reviews. The film was a solid production from top to bottom. Josh Brolin was nominated for Best Villain at the 1st Golden Reel Awards.
The Cry of the Owl
Season 1 - Round 2
Chris Evans directed and starred in this film that turned out to be quite the acting showcase. Emma Watson nearly stole the Best Actress Golden Reel Award right out from under Brie Larson (our sources tell us the voting was very close between the two). The film also managed to make a slight profit at the box office.
Maria
Season 1 - Round 4
This film not only performed surprisingly well at the box office, it also boasted great performances from an all-star cast led by Golden Reel winner Brie Larson.
Paradise Lost
Season 1 - Round 5
This film was a huge hit for everyone involved. It was nominated for two Golden Reel Awards and was the second highest grossing film of Season 1.
Libra
Season 1 - Round 5
The story of this film was really Shia LaBeouf's return to movie stardom. He received rave reviews for his performance as Lee Harvey Oswald, yet was somehow snubbed when it came time for awards season.
The Osterman Weekend
Season 1 - Round 8
This Matt Damon vehicle ultimately suffered from a bloated budget. The reviews weren't super kind for this muddled thriller, but without the high costs involved it would have made the studio a little bit of money.
The Associate
Season 1 - Round 9
While this film made many headlines during pre-production with all the behind the scenes drama, it was quickly forgotten about once it was released. It never really found an audience, with okay reviews and poor box office.
White Jazz
Season 1 - Round 10
Everyone delivered on this film, making it not only a huge hit, but also one of the most prestigious films for the studio, securing three Golden Reel nominations.
Skin Tight
Season 1 - Round 10
We are very proud of this film and were saddened that it never found the audience or received the attention we so felt it deserved.
Salem's Lot
Season 2 - Round 1
After our success with The Dead Zone we tried to catch lightning in a bottle a second time with another Stephen King adaptation. While people and critics seemed to enjoy it, the film was a financial letdown.
Peter and the Starcatchers
Season 2 - Round 1
We really did not expect this to become the huge box office hit that it became, especially once all the negative reviews startled coming in. While the film was meant to be the start of a series, the critical reception really has us rethinking plans for any sequels.
Blood Meridian
Season 2 - Round 2
One of our finest moments as a studio was being the company to finally bring this phenomenal novel to the screen. The critics adored it just as much as we did, but that wasn't enough to make it huge at the box office. Thankfully the financial loss was minimal, so it was definitely worth it.
The Fountainhead
Season 2 - Round 3
Zack Snyder's version of The Fountainhead has really been a polarizing film. Critics have been completely split on the film with some loving it and some loathing it.
Flicker
Season 2 - Round 3
With a film like Flicker, or Blood Meridian for that matter, we really don't mind losing a little money. We believe that these are important films that need to be made.
