Plot: Two sides battle for dominance of the universe, the Kree and the Skrull. But on the planet Zenn-La, two such enemies meet to learn the peace and ways of Zenn-La. But just as peace seemed more reachable than ever, a greater force entered this sector of the universe, the mighty Galactus (Arnold Vosloo). Galactus' ship begins to pierce through Zenn-La's long-neglected defense systems in order to consume the planet. The Watcher (Burn Gorman), wanting to see the philosophy of Zenn-La to survive warns Zenn-La, but there is no hope. The Master of Zenn-La (Rutger Hauer) tries to communicate with Galactus but is no use. The master of Zenn-La loses all hope and prepares for the end of his world. The two Kree and Skrull students don’t give up so easily. They try to attack Galactus’s ship, but it’s no use and they die trying to save Zenn-La. A man by the name of Norrin Radd (Keanu Reeves) won’t give up either though. He calls out for Watcher, pleading for him to give him some way to stop Galactus. Watcher tells him of such away. Norrin pleads with a Council of Scientists member to provice him with a spaceship. He makes sure his lifelong love, Shalla-Bal (Gemma Arterton), is safe then flies a ship out to confront Galactus and offers him a deal. He will become Galactus’ herald and seek out new worlds to devour in exchange for Galactus sparing Zenn-La. Galactus agrees. Norrin Radd then returns to Zenn-La to say farewell to Shalla-Bal. She asks him how he can help Galactus destroy so many worlds, but he tells her that he will only take Galactus to worlds with no life. Galactus summons Norrin Radd and he is transformed into the Silver Surfer. His body is transformed and filled with a portion of Galactus’ power, the Power Cosmic, and he is given a board in order to surf the spaceways and find new worlds for Galactus. His mind is transformed so his duty to Galactus will not be blocked by his conscious, but he also has no memory of Shalla-Bal, Zenn-La, and of his life as Norrin Radd.

The Silver Surfer, with all memory of his home planet, Zenn-La, lost, begins his search to find worlds for Galactus to devour. One world tries to fight off an attack by Galactus by shooting lasers at the Silver Surfer, hoping they could stop him from summoning Galactus, but they have no luck. Their world becomes the next victim of Galactus, and the Silver Surfer begins his search for yet another world. The Silver Surfer learns that Galactus is trying to hide his home planet from him and goes to confront Galactus. He confronts Galactus, but Galactus is too preoccupied by a new planet he found to devour: Earth.

Galactus’ ship begins to send its tentacles down into earth so that Galactus can devour the planet.  But the Silver Surfer is angry that his memory was taken away and wants it back.  When Galactus gets annoyed with the Surfer, he blasts him, sending him down to Earth. On Earth, the Navy led by Admiral Westbrook (Robert Patrick) tells the Surfer to remain where he is.  As the Surfer tries to warn them of Galactus, they think he is the cause and attack, while he has memory flashbacks of Zenn-La and himself as Norrin Radd.

Galactus' Worldship’s tentacles crash down next to the United Nations Headquarters in New York. The Surfer quickly saves a small group of diplomats by picking them up on his board. He stops the tentacles from hitting a UN interpreter, Frankie Raye (Abbie Cornish), but it knocks him into her. The Silver Surfer heals her and then soars up to face Galactus, remembering that he originally became the Herald of Galactus so he could find planets without sentient life.  When Galactus does not listen to his pleas, though, he finds himself blasting the ship’s tentacles.  Frankie begins leading a group to safety, but is teleported away.

The Silver Surfer, meanwhile, finds he needs to replenish his powers from the Sun to better fight Galactus, but he is soon blasted and placed in a cosmic bubble.  There, Galactus explains that he had to erase his memories so that the Surfer could better serve him, but the Surfer blasts at Galactus, with no luck of causing any damage, claiming he must stand up for sentient life.  He wonders how he still lives and why Galactus is leaving Earth.  Galactus explains that he is leaving earth as a last gift to him, but that he can no longer trust him.  The Silver Surfer leaves through a portal in space, as Galactus allows him to keep the Power Cosmic as a curse, since he will not be feared because of it.

Then, Galactus notices Frankie Raye, who somehow was teleported to the Worldship.  He examines her and finds that she has a special gene which allows her to find anything she searches for somehow.  Galactus transforms her into his new herald, Nova. The Silver Surfer heads back into space to search for Zenn-La. He finally sees it off in the distance, but as he gets closer, it vanishes.  Galactus then reveals in a message that he has hidden it so that the Surfer may never again return.  The Silver Surfer goes to see The Watcher for help finding Zenn-La, but the Watcher reveals that not even he knows where Galactus has hidden it. The Silver Surfer heads out into the cosmos, determined to find Zenn-La and return to Shalla-Bal.
