To the Moon: Carrie Coon (Cascade, "The Leftovers"), John Goodman (Calamity, Cape Torment) and Lakeith Stanfield (Death Note, Sorry to Bother You) have all signed on to the sci-fi drama To the Moon from director Charlie McDowell and writer Seth Overton. Coon will play the wife of David Harbour's dying character, Stanfield will play a friend of Harbour's when he was younger, and Goodman will play the CEO of the company that developed the artifical memory technology at the heart of the story.
One for the Ages: Natalie Portman (Doppelganger 2, Bunny Lake is Missing) has signed on to star in a biopic of famed female athlete Babe Didrikson Zaharias and her quest to win the the 1954 US Women's Open. Lasse Hallstrom (A Dog's Purpose, Safe Haven) will direct the film from a script by Chad Taylor (Calamity, American Dream).
Evangelion: Joss Whedon (Maximum Ride, Avengers: Age of Ultron) has been hired to direct the upcoming film Evangelion, based on the "Neon Genesis Evangelion" anime series. Taron Egerton (Scion 2, Robin Hood) has signed on to headline the film as one of the controllers of a mecha designed to fight off the invasion of alien beings called "Angels". The script comes from writer Meirad Tako (Alternative, The Story of the Assassin).
Life After Life: Paul Giamatti (Halo 4, Stained), Helen Mirren (Doppelganger, Winchester) and Paul Bettany (Cleopatra, Fevre Dream) will round out the cast of JJ Abram's upcoming film Life After Life. TFW Hallowayne and Willem Mainwright have penned the adaptation.
Ubik:
The first film of Season 10 is entering pre-production, an adaptation of the novel by Philip K. Dick. Michael Fassbender (Cleopatra, Van Helsing), James McAvoy (The Price of Fame, 101) and Peyton Roi List (Dark Places, "Light as a Feather") will star in the film. Fassbender will play a debt-ridden technician for a company that provides privacy for people against telepaths. McAvoy will play the head of the company, while List will play a beautiful young woman with a strong anti-telepath ability. Alex Garland (Adr1ft, Doppelganger) will direct the film with a script from first-time screenwriter Rosie JoLove.
7 Days: The second film of Season 10 will be from a more veteran screenwriter, Mo Buck (Halo 4, Mandingos). Bryan Cranston (Triple Identity, Ranger) and John Hawkes (Low Down, Small Town Crime) will star in the dramatic thriller, 7 Days, based on the novel by Patrick Senecal. Cranston will play a man who kidnaps and tortures the man who raped and murdered his daughter. Hawkes will play the murderer. S. Craig Zahler (Brawl in Cell Block 99, Bone Tomahawk) has signed on to direct the project.
