Reaction: It was a rare sight earlier this round when All The Pretty Horses lost more than its production budget, but maybe it's not so rare now that High School has ended up in the same boat. Maybe it shouldn't be so unexpected that a teen drama about lesbians coming of age based on a book by only moderately well-known musicians bombed, but we were hoping that Elle Fanning's growing profile would attract more eyes than it did.

"Elle Fanning gives a good dual performance as the two leads, but there isn't much here we haven't seen before in bits and pieces in other films. If it weren't for someone with the skills of Fanning, the film probably wouldn't have worked. Thankfully, she elevates the film and gives two distinct performances as twins Tegan and Sara." - Paul Landon, Film School Rejects

"Sometimes it can be hard to find the narrative arc in films based on true stories, and that is certainly the case here. The lead characters, both played well by Elle Fanning, are lacking clearly defined arcs, which keeps the film from gaining the necessary momentum and making it feel too episodic." - Sean Williamson, Toronto Star

"Fans of the musicians who provide the source material, Tegan and Sara, will probably be happy with the film, but High School may struggle to attract a wider audience with its niche subject matter. The film is a bit choppy, but Fanning gives a couple of good performances and makes both twins likable even when their actions won't always warrant it." - Michael Wilmington, Rolling Stone

Rated R for language, drug use and sexuality/nudity - all involving teens
