Genre: Adventure/Fantasy
Director: Jon M. Chu
Writer: Wesley Campbell
Based on the novel by Dave Berry and Ridley Pearson
Cast: Wyatt Oleff, Rowan Blanchard, Luke Evans, David Tennant, Maisie Williams, Russell Brand, Jack Davenport, Vincent Cassel, Noah Schnapp, Max Charles, Temuera Morrison, Jeremy Ray Taylor, Shirley Henderson
Plot: Peter (Wyatt Oleff) soars into the sky, taking in the view of the whole island. He is soon joined by another flying creature, a "bird girl" named Tinkerbell (voiced by Maisie Williams), who speaks with tinkling sounds like small bells. She warns Peter to be careful, but Peter's confident he can avoid being captured. Peter doesn't notice that below one of the Lost Boys, James (Max Charles), has started climbing the mountain's slope that separates the boys' camp from the pirate camp. James's determined not to miss out on the action. Peter also fails to notice a tiny black speck on the horizon that's slowly growing closer.
A sailing ship, "Le Fantome," captained by Captain Nerezza (Vincent Cassel), an evil character with a hole where his nose used to be, who wears a wooden nose and pulls it aside to smell.
Climbing to the lookout, Nerezza finds the lookout asleep and berates for not noticing the signs of land. He gives the lookout a choice: jump off the ship and hope to swim to land, or he can spend one night in the cabin with shadow man. The man chooses chooses to jump.
In their camp, the pirates are led by Black Stache (Luke Evans), but Peter calls him Captain Hook. The pirates see Peter approaching by air and warn Captain Hook. At the same time, he spots James climbing down toward the camp. He quickly dispatches some of his men to capture James.
According to Nerezza's first mate, Slank (Russell Brand), who's been to the island before and was defeated by Peter, this island's one they've been looking for. Slank looks forward to seeing the boy again and taking his revenge.
Peter's surprised to see Captain Hook standing in the open, expecting him. He throws the mango at him, and Hook confidently catches it on his hook and eats it calmly. Hook calls out to him that he's captured James, and that he'll let him go in exchange for Peter. Peter's to meet him at the spring near the walls of the pirate fort. Peter's outraged and flies away to make a plan.
"Le Fantome," sails into a bay of Mollusk Island. They've spotted smoke and choose it as a target to go looking for Peter and something called "starstuff." They'll wait until dark and row ashore with their dark "guest."
Peter goes to Fighting Prawn (Temuera Morrison), the leader of the Mollusk tribe, for help in rescuing James. Fighting Prawn admonishes Peter for being cocky and encouraging his friends to take risks. He tells Peter of a possible escape route is if they can find a brave person to help them who's also a strong swimmer. Peter Knows who the chief's talking about.
After dark, Nerezza, Slank and several others row the figure ashore. Slank hears Nerezza refers to the stranger as Lord Ombra (David Tennant). As they row, Slank's fearful of his previous experience. He's watchful of the water. He thinks about catching Peter and taking his revenge, which Ombra responds to his thoughts. They reach the sandy shore, and Ombra glides up the beach, leaving no footprints.
Peter prepares to meet Hook. He puts on long pants to conceal his feet and hovers, giving the illusion he's standing. He meets Hook, who's holding James near the spring. As Peter nears, Hooks grab at Peter but only grabs his empty pant legs. Peter draws Hook away, pushing James into the spring. Peter escapes Hook, then flies off urgently to find James.
Lord Ombra leads Nerezza, Slank, and their men move toward the village of the Mollusks. Ombra goes into the chief's hut, where he finds the chief's wife and daughter. He tells Slank to take the girl. Mollusk warriors surround them but don't attack because they're holding the girl. Ombra approaches one of the Mollusk warriors as Slank watches. A dark tendril emerges along the ground from Ombra's cloak. When the tendril reaches one of the Mollusk warriors' shadow, the warrior's eyes go dead. He turns to the others and says something in the native language. Slank's surprised when the warrior begins to speak again, but in English and in Ombra's voice. He says the other warriors have been sent to get the chief.
We return to the exchange with Captain Hook. James's surprised when Peter pushes him into the spring and alarmed to feel himself being pulled under. He's been grabbed by a mermaid, who quickly pulls him through the underground spring to a pool and brings him to the surface. Peter's glad to see his friend and thanks the mermaid and Fighting Prawn, who'd come up with the plan and accompanied Peter. Suddenly two Mollusk warriors rush up and inform Fighting Prawn of the strangers in the village who's taken his daughter captive.
Tinkerbell leads James back to the Lost Boys' hut. Peter flies to the Mollusk Village to see if he can help Fighting Prawn and learn about the strangers. He arrives just as Fighting Prawn does and watches from a hidden spot in the jungle. He sees Slank not fully remembering him.
Fighting Prawn confronts Ombra and the others, insisting they release his daughter. Ombra tells him they've come to retrieve a starstuff box left behind on the island. Fighting Prawn says it's been taken away by Lord Aster. After briefly possessing his shadow, Ombra learns Fighting Prawn's telling the truth. He leads the men back to the shore, taking the girl as hostage to protect them until getting to the boat, where she's released. He knows Lord Aster and his daughter Molly, and something Ombra said makes him believe that Molly's in danger.
He must go to England to help Molly Aster (Rowan Blanchard). Tinkerbell goes into a jealous pout when Peter asks her to come with him. He flies off alone after saying farewell, but Tinkerbell relents and goes flying after him after a few moments.
In London, Molly speaks with her father Leonard (Jack Davenport). Lord Aster's alarmed because he's just got news about the visitors to Mollusk Island looking for the starstuff box. He tells Molly and his wife that the starstuff's well guarded. He must leave for several days. He doesn't tell them where and warns them not to follow him or find him.
Peter's hidden on Nerezza's ship returning to England. He follows the vessel at first, flying low in the darkness, then flies to one of the masts where a large sail's rolled up. He hides in the sail, but Lord Ombra senses his presence and tells Nerezza to look at the sails. Nerezza sends a sailor up. Peter's nearly discovered before Tinkerbell flits around the sailor, confusing him into losing his balance. The sailor tells the others he's stung by a bee, but another sailor points out there aren't bees at sea. Lord Ombra's interested in the report and tells Nerezza to double the watch at night and report anything unusual to him.
Molly and her mother have tea served by their servant, Jenna (Shirley Henderson). They speak quietly about the dangerous situation. Her mother cautions her to be careful.
Jenna returns to tells Molly there's a visitor. It's George Darling (Noah Schnapp), an awkward boy who lives nearby. He senses something unusual and comments on the large men guarding outside. Molly's reluctant to tell him anything. Molly goes to her room, which looks out over the street. She sees a policeman walk by and notices his uniform doesn't fit well. The policeman stops and looks at the Aster house, intently. She doesn't know that he's looking at where Jenna's holding up three fingers in a signal.
After several days of hiding without food or water, Peter's weak. He comes down from the sail after dark, and Tinkerbell, using a shell, brings him water from the scuttlebutt. Below deck, Lord Ombra senses Tinkerbell's presence and glides out to look around.
Tubby Ted (Jeremy Ray Taylor), one of the Lost Boys, goes hunting for fruit in Mollusk Island's jungle and falls partially into a hidden cavern. James pulls him out and is excited to find the secret cavern. He rushes back to tell the other Lost Boys about it.
Peter still has no food. Tinkerbell tells him she's discovered where the food is stored. Peter makes his way into the dark hold where the cook is sleeping, guarding the food. Lord Ombra, sensing their presence, makes his way toward the hold. Peter accidentally awakens the cook, who begins to yell. Peter and Tinkerbell rush above deck, with Lord Ombra drawing nearer. Peter dashes and jumps over the side of the ship.
Captain Nerezza calls all the sailors to the deck. He concludes the stowaway must have drowned after jumping overboard. Lord Ombra doesn't seem so sure.
Captain Hook watches from high above as the Lost Boys move back and forth into the jungle on the mountain slope. He devises a plan to capture them.
Peter recognizes the dock as the same place he had departed England before going to Mollusk Island. He's grateful to see land, and eager to look for Molly, but has no idea where to begin. Under Ombra's orders, Nerezza tells his crew that nobody's allowed to leave the ship. Tinkerbell overhears the men talking and returns to Peter to tell him they're planning on going to the Aster house and knowing Lord Aster isn't there. A storm has arisen, giving Peter cover to leave the ship and fly unseen to the dock. Peter, afraid to be seen flying, drops into an alley and surprises a man sitting on the ground drinking from a bottle.
Slank climbs to look out over the city and keep an eye on the grumbling crew. In one of the high sails, he spots something and investigates. It's a bone also some apple cores that have teeth marks in them. He knows it means Peter's been hiding there. He decides to keep his discovery to himself for his intention to get revenge.
Peter resolves to find Molly somehow but finds the people of London unhelpful. Peter feels the locket around his neck, which holds a small starstuff, vibrate like a tiny heartbeat.
It's the middle of the night, and Molly cannot sleep. She watches the street below her window. She's startled by a knock at her bedroom door. It's Jenna, who wonders if Molly needs anything. Molly sends her away but is suspicious that Jenna would also be awake and outside her door.
Lord Ombra, Nerezza, and Slank ride in a carriage to the Aster house. Ombra goes around to the back of the house, where a guard is standing watch. Ombra pulls the guard's shadow away from him and puts it into a burlap sack. He then watches as a new shadow takes the place of the guard's original shadow.
After seeing a postman delivering letters, Peter comes up with a plan to find Molly. He asks a postal clerk to write a letter to be sent to Lord Aster's house. When the postman goes out on his rounds, Peter follows him, watching to see where the courier delivers his letter.
Jenna's having a meal with the rest of the household's servants. She's especially careful that each of them has some of the potato soup.
Peter follows the directions to Molly's house. He sees a guard posted outside but decides he'll simply try the door or fly around the house looking for Molly's window. He's stunned when he sees a carriage, and Slank gets out.
Molly sees the carriage from her bedroom window, and also she recognizes Slank. The men approach the guard, who unlocks the gate to the house and lets them in. Molly runs to her door, but Jenna's standing there, holding a knife.
Peter watches Slank, and the others enter the house as he must help Molly. Molly's held in her room by Jenna. She hears the footsteps of men in the house below, then hears her mother scream.
Molly manages to get past Jenna by throwing a bottle of ink in her face. In her struggle with Jenna, her locket flies off and lands under her bed. She rushes past Jenna to the top of the stairs but sees Ombra coming up toward her. She rushes back into her room and slams the door.
Slowly, Ombra seems to flow like black water under the door to Molly's room. He's angry with Jenna for using a knife to threaten Molly, telling her he doesn't want her harmed.
Peter frantically looks for Molly's window. Ombra gives her an envelope, telling her she delivers it to her father if she wants her mother to be released. Seeing that Ombra's moving toward her shadow, Molly douses the lamp. Before Jenna can relight it, Peter and Tinkerbell appear at the window. Tinkerbell fills the room with a bright flash. Molly escapes but leaving her locket behind.
Peter has difficulty while holding Molly. They land and hide in a large tree. Below, the men search for them. Frustrated, Ombra kills Jenna.
Molly tells Peter about her father going away to the Return. In this event, the starstuff gathered by the Starcatchers's returned to the skies. Deciding they cannot stay in the tree, Molly suggests they go to the house of George Darling, whose parents are away. Peter senses the mutual attraction George has for Molly, making things awkward.
The next day, George calls them a cab to the Tower of London. He wants to go along, but Molly convinces him to stay behind. At the Tower, the guard recognizes Molly. He doesn't let Peter pass. Peter falls back and flies over the wall to meet Molly, with Tinkerbell in his shirt. He doesn't see a man hiding in the shadows who moves away as Peter flies over the wall.
Molly and Peter make their way to the White Tower within the tower yard. Meanwhile, ravens cry along the walls of the fortress.
Ombra makes his way into the Tower and learns from the ravens where Molly and Peter have gone.
Aguard, greets Molly and Peter at the White Tower. He tells them that Molly's father had been there and taken the starstuff, but he couldn't tell them where he went. Tinkerbell hears men approaching.
Ombra leads a group of men to the White Tower's steps and tells them to catch the girl and bring her to him unharmed. Ombra makes his way under the Tower's strong door.Trapped on the lower floor, Molly and Peter accidentally discover a secret passage. Molly finds clues that her father had been there recently. They come back out of the Keep and dodge the men to reach the Tower's upper level, where they barely escape through a hole in the wall.
Molly and Peter return to George's room with a clue in a set of numbers written on a paper scrap. George recognizes them as train times and helps them determine that Molly's father had perhaps taken a train to a nearby village. He offers to help Molly and Peter buy train tickets to Salisbury, but insist on coming along. Peter's reluctant, but Molly agrees.
Upon reaching Salisbury, remembering a house with a gold weather vane, she finds the home with George's help. Lord Ombra takes over the shadows of two people who live nearby.
The house Molly remembers is guarded by a large man who has a bear named Karl. The children are caught by Karl. Molly's father's surprised and dismayed to see her. She explains her mother's kidnapping. He tells her he has no choice. He cannot give the starstuff to Ombra.
Molly explains to George how the Starcatchers gather starstuff and return it to the heavens in a Return ceremony. George, an amateur astronomer, notes that there's a lunar eclipse that evening. He hints that he's a good idea where the Return will take place.
Lord Aster leaves, having left Peter and the others with strict instructions not to follow him. George guesses that the Return site is Stonehenge. They escape the house by flying. Molly and George use some of Peter's starstuff, giving them temporary flight.
Ombra, Slank and the others take Lady Aster with them in a carriage toward Stonehenge after Ombra gets word through some ravens.
In preparation for the Return, Lord Aster's dressed in a special suit that protects him. He carefully carries the trunk full of starstuff toward the center of the monument as the lunar eclipse begins. As the moon darkens, luminous green strands of light begin to streak down toward the earth from the moon. Ombra stations two riflemen nearby, ready to shoot Aster. He sees them before he can open the trunk and opens it, casting a bright blinding light. Nobody can get near the chest while it's open except Aster. Ombra brings out Lady Aster and makes her walk toward the open chest. Seeing his wife walking into danger, Aster closes the trunk.
Peter, Molly, George and Tinkerbell have reached the site, and Molly rushes to her mother. The latter's walking toward the open trunk. After Lord Aster closes the lid, Ombra's men shoot him, knocking him down. George helps pull Aster away from the monument as Ombra approaches the closed trunk and prepares to take it. Peter and Karl attack the men who are taking the trunk. A flash from Tinkerbell holds off Ombra and his men long enough for Peter to open the chest again, just in time for the green light from the moon to reach it. Peter's shot in the arm, but after the Return, he's miraculously healed. Ombra dissolves in the intense light. Aster's also treated by the small bit of starstuff in Peter's locket.
Everyone returns and Lord Aster offers to make arrangements to sail Peter back. Peter thanks him but says he'll fly with Tinkerbell. He says a sad goodbye to Molly and promises to return to help her if needed. George's returned home, promising not to tell anyone what he's learned about the Starcatchers.
The Lost Boys are trapped in a giant cage by Captain Hook. Some monkeys to chewing the ropes of the cage, they escape. Just as they're out of reach of the pirates, Peter appears, throwing a mango that strikes Captain Hook's eye.
