The Youngest Hart

Foreign Box Office: $69,045,116
Total Profit: -$10,507,492

Reaction: The losses here really boil down to the film bombing at the domestic box office. If the film had done as well in domestic markets as it did overseas (which is probably due to Witherspoon's star power) it would have made a healthy profit. It's very rare for a drama to gross more overseas than domestically.

"The Alyn Lind sisters probably aren't ready for major roles like this, but they are bailed out by veteran actors of the cast such as Forrest Whitaker and Casey Affleck. I have mixed feelings about Witherspoon's performance as it goes overboard at times. A lot works in this film. especially if you can look past some of the 'Lifetime' moments." - Janelle Arbor, Vogue

"The film clearly has its 'hart' in the right place and means well. The film will start to hook you in with some emotional honesty, but can then push too far with some of the more shocking moments. It may have simply gone for the wrong genre. As a thriller (or dramatic thriller), those more evil moments would have worked better than it does in a solely dramatic film. That said, I enjoyed the film as a whole despite its flaws." - Chris Price, Boston Herald

"Selena and Claudia are two of the most shockingly over-the-top villains I've seen in some time. It was distracting how over the top their actions were at times, like they were in a completely different movie than the other more realistic characters (aside from the ending where everything felt unrealistic - especially from a legal standpoint). It's a well-meaning drama, but goes too far over the top one too many times for me." - Stephen Bonds, San Francisco Chronicle
