Blood in the Water: Carl Weathers ("The Mandalorian", "Chicago Justice") and Clifton Collins Jr. (Depth Perception, Once Upon a Time in Hollywood) have signed to the Gerard Butler-led thriller Blood in the Water, which promises to be part weather disaster movie and part shark movie. They will play the employees stationed on a small oil rig in the Mississippi River. Roland Emmerich is directing the film from a script by Mark Newton.
Green Arrow: SuperMax: Vanessa Kirby (Green Arrow 2: Hunters, Pieces of a Woman) has officially signed on to return as Dinah Lance aka Black Canary, Green Arrow's romantic partner and partner in crimefighting in the third Green Arrow film. Also joining the film are Titus Welliver (Lowell, "Bosch") and Hannah Murray (Guilt, The Devil's Passage). Welliver will play a business rival of Oliver Queen (Armie Hammer), while Murray will play Queen's personal assistant. Wes Ball once again directs from a script by APJ.
American Dragon: Aaron Eckhart (Orchid, Somewhere Somehow), Naomie Harris (The Great Beyond, Spectre) and Vincent D'Onofrio (Jonestown, Halo 5) have joined the professional wrestling biopic, American Dragon, about the life of wrestler Daniel Bryan. Eckhart will play former pro wrestling superstar Shawn Michaels, who trains the main character (played by Mark Webber). D'Onofrio will play the main character's father, while Harris will play a doctor. Jonathan Levine is set to direct the film, which was written by Giovanni Garcia and Chad Taylor.
Watch Hill: Sam Rockwell (Hawkworld, Of Rocks and Sand), Jennifer Ehle (Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic II, Splinter Cell: Blacklist) and Kaitlyn Dever (Scream 5, The Virgin Suicides) will star in a new thriller from director Steven Soderbergh (Doctor Love, Carmilla) and writer Alex Conn (Columbine, The Vegan Movie 2: Tariq Goes to Sarah Lawrence). Rockwell and Ehle will play a married couple, with Dever set to play their teenage daughter, who move to Watch Hill, Rhode Island, as their relationships become unraveled.
Painkiller Jane: As it was announced at the 2nd LRF Comic-Con, Jessica Chastain (Mr. Big, Sinkhole) is set to star in an adaptation of the comic series, Painkiller Jane. Chastain will play Jane Vasko, an undercover police officer who finds that her body can heal injuries following a deadly accident. Chad Stahelski (the John Wick film series) has been hired to direct the film based on an adaptation by Roy Horne (Excalibur, Red Sonja).
The Brilliant Friend: Lily Collins (Misfit, Burnt Dreams) and Samara Weaving (Namor the Sub-Mariner, Visions) are set to headline the supernatural thriller, The Brilliant Friend. Collins will play a woman who goes on a hiking trip to the mountains of Argentina where they find a magical lamp. Weaving will play the genie who emerges from the lamp with some questionable motives. Reed Morano (The Rhythm Section, I Think We're Alone Now) has signed on to direct the film from a script by Andrew Doster (Crush, Love).
