It's getting to crunch time on the season, and with a couple more really strong films, things are starting to get really interesting. The Roundup....
3. Box Office
The box office was all over the place in the first half of the season, but now we are on a streak of seven consecutive profitable films. With a few sure-fire hits left before the end of the season, and suddenly the box office is started to look a little less bleak (although it is still on pace to be one of the lowest grossing seasons for LRF).
2. Sleeping Beauties
I was surprised with this film, to be honest. I had never heard of the novel before, but writer Matt Parker clearly has a way with adapting King's work that results in good films. The casting also seemed pretty much perfect, even Danny McBride in a rare dramatic role.
1. Cocaine Cowboys
This crime epic joins Caesar as the two most obvious GRA frontrunners at this point in the season (although there are still three rounds to go, so a lot can change). Between the cast, the script, the soundtrack, and the aesthetically pleasing choice of Michael Bay as director, I enjoyed this one quite a bit.
3. N/A
2. Fear of the Dark
This one just didn't grab me. Craig Gillespie seemed like a fairly boring choice as director, and I couldn't keep some of the younger female characters straight as they seemed too similarly written at times.
1. Box Office
Things might be trending in the right direction at the box office, but the rocky first half of the season might have doomed the box office into being the lowest in LRF history. Unless Green Arrow 3 and Teen Titans can break records like Namor the Sub-Mariner and Green Lantern Corps last season, I fear the season's box office is doomed.
