Reaction: The poor box office showing of The Brilliant Friend has put an end to the studio's run of five consecutive profitable films. Good thing this film wasn't more expensive, or the losses could have become much bigger in a hurry.
"I'm not really sure what to make of The Brilliant Friend. The imagery was impressive, but I didn't care about the characters one-bit, and the introduction of a conniving genie really didn't add as much to events as you might suspect." - Jon Farrell, Hollywood Reporter
"Lily Collins and Samara Weaving work well off one another, with Weaving giving an especially fun, mischevious performance. The story features way more set-up than is necessary, but the playoff is pretty fun." - Bruce Vickers, Baltimore Sun
"The Brilliant Friend takes a turn toward bonkers by the end, but it only helped the film. The story starts off so slowly, that the introduction of Samara Weaving's genie injects a lot of life into the film (although it probably would have been best if she had shown up way sooner)." - Chris Knowles, TV Guide
Rated PG-13 for frightening images and some language
