Plot: Undercover NYPD detective Jane Vasko (Jessica Chastain), clad in a crimson corset, dances in a go-go cage above the dance floor of Manhattan's newest and hottest nightclub, Club Noir. Her partner, Seth Hiller (Jason Mantzoukas), is across the street, undercover as a homeless man. He radios to Jane that he thinks he sees the Blanco brothers pulling up and entering the club now. Jane watches the doors from her post, and sure enough, Angel (Wilmer Valderrama) and Reynaldo Blanco (Wilmer Valderrama) enter the club. She makes eye contact with the identical drug dealers as she continues dancing in her cage. A drug deal between the Blancos and a Jamaican gang quickly goes south. The Blancos leave the club, but not before leaving an explosive device in the middle of the dance floor, right below Jane's post. Jane is helpless to watch as the device detonates, eviscerating the dance floor, blowing the patrons into messes of blood and pulp. Jane's cage crashes to the ground.

The entire city block is rocked by the bomb left by the Blanco brothers. Seth, in a panic, rushes inside the burning, damaged nightclub in search of Jane. He finds her unconscious, but with a faint pulse. He radios in an officer down. He looks around at the carnage around him and throws up onto what's left of the dance floor. Paramedics and firefighters finally arrive and rush Jane out of building and into an ambulance. Firefighters have to forcefully drag Seth out of the burning building.

At the hospital, Jane's fiance Mark Willhofsky (Adam Scott) and her parents Karl (Bruce Davison) and Maria Vasko (Blair Brown), eagerly ask Dr. Browning (Dylan Baker) what her prognosis is. Browning says that Jane has slipped into a coma, which is never a good thing, but they will be diligent in their duties. Seth waits out in the hall, feeling too guilty to enter the room with Jane's family around. Mark asks Browning what her chances of waking up are, and Browning says he couldn't even hazard a guess as every case is different. Jane's parents insist that Browning and the hospital staff do everything they can to keep Jane alive and comfortable. Once her family has left for the night, Seth enters the room and tells the comatose Jane that he will visit her every day until the Blanco brothers have been brought to justice.

Two Years Later...
Seth is once again visiting the comatose Jane, whose muscles are being massaged and exercised by her nurse Maureen Kwon (Jamie Chung). Seth tells Jane that he has petitioned the captain to put him back on the Blanco case, but he's not sure how well that will go since he's kind of on the captain's shit list these days. Seth leaves to start his shift at the precinct. Maureen kisses Jane's forehead. She then looks all around, and once she is sure that nobody is possibly around, Maureen kisses Jane on the lips.

The next morning, both Seth and Maureen are about to enter Jane's hospital room, but are shocked to find her bed empty and the window open. They look down, but don't see her body. Seth tells Maureen that it would be bad news if the Blanco brothers find out she's not only still alive, but also up and about, as they tend to like the people they kill to stay killed, or so the saying goes. Seth dusts the window for fingerprints, but only turns up prints belonging to Jane. He proposes a plan to Maureen and Dr. Browning that, in order to protect Jane's life, they need to have her declared dead. Browning says that he understands why he suggests that, but says that he is unwilling to participate. However, if they are planning something like that he will turn a blind eye. Browning then hints that there is a Jane Doe down in the morgue that would be a suitable match. Maureen and Seth go down to the morgue and give the Jane Doe, who does look a decent amount like Jane, a new toe tag bearing the name of Jane Vasko. The Jane Doe is quickly buried in a grave next to the graves of her parents Karl and Maria Vasko. City newspapers publish reports of the death of hero cop Jane Vasko following a two-year coma.

Jane goes to her old house. She asks for Mark, but the homeowner tells her that he moved out with his wife, a pretty young blonde, several months ago. She sits on the sidewalk, unsure of what to do or where to go, when she sees the headlines reporting her death. Jane makes her way to the cemetery. She breaks down crying when she sees her parents' graves. As she cries, she sees a shadow coming up from behind her. She turns and finds Seth approaching. Jane expresses confusion at what's going on. Seth tells her that she was in a coma for two years, and a lot has changed. Seth asks Jane what she needs. She tells Seth that she needs to get payback.

Maureen volunteers to help Jane with her physical rehabilitation as a chance to spend time with her. As Jane is working with weights, some equipment malfunctions and impales Jane's arm. Maureen rushes to get a first aid kit, but by the time she gets to Jane, she watches as Jane's wound begins healing itself. Jane asks Maureen to help her test her potential new ability further, but Maureen worries about hurting her. Jane finds a pair of scissors in the first aid kit, hands them to Maureen, and tells her to cut her. Jane goads Maureen on until she slashes Jane on the shoulder with the scissors. The cut hurts Jane, as she yells in pain. However, they then both watch in amazement as the wound quickly heals.

Jane meets with Seth. He hands her an envelope, telling her it is the information she asked for. Jane thanks Seth, and he wishes her luck. Jane walks up to a house. She double checks the address from a piece of paper in the envelope. In the window, Jane sees her former fiance Mark conversing with his new wife. A rage overcomes her. She knocks over the couple's mailbox. She then grabs the 4x4 post of the mailbox and begins smashing his car with it, setting off the alarm. Jane starts running away as Mark comes outside. He sees a flash of red hair running away. He then sees the destruction of his car.

Jane, Seth and Maureen laugh over beers as she tells them how she trashed Mark's car. Maureen asks Jane if she plans on using her newfound abilities for anything more than smashing the cars of exes. Seth asks what new abilities. Jane proceeds to break a beer bottle over her face. She grunts in pain, but sure enough, the wound begins quickly healing. Seth asks Jane if she's alright with things being over with Mark. Jane looks at Maureen and says that she thinks she's done with men for a while. Seth notices the attraction between the two women on either side of him and excuses himself to go get another round for the table. When he returns, he finds Jane and Maureen kissing. Seth sits down next to them and begins drinking his beer.

The next day, Jane arrives at her old NYPD precinct. Her old colleagues are all stunned to see that she is still alive after all. She goes up to Seth's desk and begins looking for his files on the Blanco brothers. Her former superior, Captain Pierce (Hugh Dillon), approaches her. First he expresses confusion that she's still alive, but then asks her what she's doing searching her former partner's desk. Jane tells Pierce that she needs the current information on the Blanco brothers so she can get her payback on them for what happened to her and the dozens that were killed in the Club Noir bombing. Pierce tells her to leave it to the detectives assigned to the case. Jane snaps back at Pierce, demanding to know why the two are still free men two years after killing dozens of innocent people. Pierce doesn't have an answer for this. Jane finds a file in Seth's desk. She tells Pierce that since she's dead, she doesn't have to follow any rules or procedures. Jane then leaves the station.

That night, Jane meets Seth across the street from the hideout of the Blanco brothers. Seth pops his trunk, revealing it to be full of weaponry. She seems surprised by the shear amount of guns Seth has in the trunk. He calls himself a collector and tells Jane to pick her poison. Jane picks out a sawed-off shotgun and two matching pistols. Seth grabs a gun as well, preparing to join Jane, but she refuses to allow him to come in with her. He says he's her partner, even if she isn't a cop anymore. Jane tells Seth that she would never be able to forgive herself if anything ever happened to Seth. Besides, she says, she can heal her wounds, he can't. Seth relents, telling Jane that he'll be right outside if she needs him.

Jane enters the drug den and is immediately under fire from the Blanco's thugs. She instinctively takes cover, but then decides to just step into the fray. She fires her shotgun at them. She kills them, but his hit by multiple bullets in the process. Once the room is clear, Jane sits down for a moment, grimacing as the bullet holes heal. In the backroom, Angel and Reynaldo are getting high on their own supply when the gunfight happens. When the gunshots stop, they call out for their men, but the only response they get is from Jane suggesting they come out and face her like men. Angel and Reynaldo are surprised that a lone woman could have killed all of their men. They each do a line of cocaine and burst out of the backroom, guns blazing. They fire their automatic rifles with reckless abandon through the room, riddling everything in their path full of bullets. Jane stumbles out from cover, full of bullets, and falls at the feet of the Blanco brothers. Angel and Reynaldo laugh at the thought of having killed the source of their current trouble. Jane then opens her eyes and fires her two pistols at once, delivering a kill shot to the head of both Blanco brothers at once.

Jane sets off an explosion in the drug den. Outside, Seth is knocked off his feet by the blast. He is once again worried about Jane being hurt in an explosion. As he approaches to investigate, Jane walks out of the inferno, the burns from the flames quickly healing. Seth and Jane drive away from the crime scene as sirens and flashing lights approach. Seth asks Jane what she plans on doing now that she's gotten her payback. She ponders the question for a moment, before saying that she'll do whatever she wants - she's already dead after all.
