Welcome back for another edition of A Second Look with Jeff Stockton! In this segment I will take a "second look" at a past LRF release with a fresh set of eyes.
It was already announced that Hailee Steinfeld would be returning as Helena Bertinelli AKA The Huntress for the first time since Season 8 in the upcoming Teen Titans, so for this latest edition of A Second Look I will be taking a look at Huntress.
Huntress was directed by Michelle MacLaren as her feature debut and penned by DC Comics Universe anchor APJ. As I recall, there was a lot of hype coming into the film as Hailee Steinfeld had been announced for the title role seasons prior. The film depicted the murder of her family and her quest for revenge against those responsible. The film starts out with a bang, literally, but then it takes far too long to get its story going, spending most of its running time consumed by drama at an Italian villa. While the finale fight scene is strong, Huntress is sorely lacking in the action department. I did, however, appreciated some of the nuances a little more this time around. At the end of the day though, Huntress is still, more or less, the film I remember it being. Between Huntress and Green Arrow 2: Hunters, I do feel that writer APJ learned a valuable less about the importance of the action scenes in films like these as his superhero films since have been far more exciting.
