We've got a nice streak of profitable films going on, even if the season may be a lost cause at this point. Here's The Roundup....
3. Box Office
The season is almost surely going to be the lowest grossing season in LRF history, but at least we're seeing more box office successes as the season goes on.
2. American Dragon
I knew nothing about the subject of this film, but what matters is that long-time character actor Mark Webber is given a role here to completely disappear into. The story worked for the most part, although some of the supporting casting seemed a bit odd (namely Tommy Lee Jones as Vince McMahon).
1. Painkiller Jane
I had a blast with Painkiller Jane. Based on the premise, the star (Chastain) and the director (and the writer, to be honest), I was not expecting such a funny movie. I could have used a bit more action, but the combination of the action, drama and comedy worked well in this one.
3. Watch Hill
What the hell did I just watch? I honestly can't make heads or tails of Watch Hill. It wasn't boring, but I didn't understand why any of the characters were doing what they were doing. And to parrot one of my fellow critics, can someone please explain Peter to me?
2. Box Office
While the studio has an impressive streak of profitable films right now, the season started so poorly that I have now officially become a broken record.
1. Anne Hathaway Singing "I Dream a Dream"
Once again, Alex Conn appears to be trolling me. I could have gone my entire life without hearing Anne Hathaway's rendition of the song from that dull Les Miserables musical film, but now not only has Alex subjected me to it once earlier this season in The Vegan Movie 2, but here it is again in Watch Hill. Damn you!
