Reaction: It's not a massive hit like some other recent Tom Cruise projects (The King of Hearts, Green Lantern Corps, etc.), but considering the R-Rating the studio is very pleased.

"Thanks to an eerie setting, Dwight Gallo's horror adaptation gets the job done. It's creepy and thrilling, but I don't expect it to win awards, even though it's good entertainment." - Glenn Magnus, Maxim

"Cruise and Kosinski once again team-up for another thrilling film. While the story isn't the most filmic in the world in the middle parts, the script by Dwight Gallo, the direction by Joseph Kosinski, and the steady lead performance from Tom Cruise keep the momentum moving forward toward the next scare." - Chris Knowles, TV Guide

"H.P. Lovecraft's imagery has always thrived on the big screen, but his stories - filled with more exposition and description than actual action - can leave something to be desired. It's not a perfect movie, but it's probably about as good as an adaptation of At the Mountains of Madness can really be all things considered. Writer Gallo has heavily simplified the backstory of the creatures and has given Cruise's Dyer a bit of life not found in the pages." - Ken Hammerschmidt, Washington Post

Rated R for violence and gore, frightening images, some language and thematic material
