With two rounds left to go of Season 19, things are starting to look up. All three films made money this round, and we still have Superman and Spider-Man left to help out in the final two rounds. Here's The Roundup....
3. Soundtracks
With a soundtrack for The Dark Tower II: The Drawing of the Three (which worked better than the film itself), we're looking better on the soundtrack front. At least now there will be enough potential nominees to choose 5 in the GRA nominations process rather than 3 or 4.
2. Tom Cruise
Tom Cruise strikes again! He has the best box office track record of any talent in the LRF world. Plus At the Mountains of Madness ended up being pretty entertaining.
1. Profits!
After a handful of rough rounds in a row, we finally have another round where all three films made money. None were giant hits, but it's a step in the right direction with two rounds to go on the season.
3. Tokyo Rose
It was a good movie, but with the crew and writer involved I was expecting a lot more. Maybe that's my fault, but I have space to fill in this column so it earns a spot. Speaking of the crew...
2. Steven Spielberg
Remember when his name guaranteed roaring adventure and feelings of wonder and excitement? The last several (non-LRF) films to feature his name (either as producer or director) have not exactly impressed me. Even when the movie itself is good, it doesn't have that feeling of wonder Spielberg used to be able to conjure.
1. The Dark Tower II: The Drawing of the Three
This one simply does not work as its own film. If you haven't seen the first film, this one will make zero sense. It doesn't even tell a story. It's all second act, no beginning or end.
