Reaction: While not a DC Comics Universe-sized hit, it is another R-rated Marvel Comics effort from writer Dwight Gallo that managed some solid numbers thanks to its relatively modest budget and the international appeal of its ninja-centric story.
"While the story appears to simply be designed to carry the characters from one action sequence to another, I'd be lying if I said the film isn't an exciting feast on the senses. Sofia Boutella finally has a true star vehicle that makes excellent use of her natural physicality and sensuality." - Gregory Fletcher, Los Angeles Times-Journal
"What happens when you combine Zack Snyder's maximalist style with a minimalist story that is light on backstory and heavy on action? A lean, mean, body-slicing machine that flies by (even if feeling slight at times). While Boutella and Heughan have great chemistry, Dwight Gallo's strength at casting supporting roles really shines in this one with Norris, Mizuno, and Kitano all standing out." - Kate Yarbrough, The Guardian
"Elektra is not a perfect film by any means. The stakes are fairly low and the characters are too enigmatic at times. Modern superhero film fans may find the film lacking in the tropes of that particular genre. Zack Snyder's Elektra is much more in line with classic Japanese ninja films, albeit with a sexy, stylish, modern twist featuring an excellent performance from Sofia Boutella in the lead role and fun supporting work from Chuck Norris of all people." - Dave Manning, Ridgefield Press
Rated R for graphic bloody violence throughout, language and sexuality/nudity.
