3. Awards Races
I don't think any of the films released this season are going to be major awards contenders this season. Last season, the first Odysseus film took home Best Adaptation and Best Supporting Actress for Jessica Chastain. That is unlikely to happen again with Chastain getting even less screen time in this sequel and the studio releasing more adaptations this season. Why is this in the Top 3? I don't know, I'm just trying to be positive, I guess. At the very least it helps narrow down the list of favorites heading into the final two rounds (where Caesar Part II and The Black Hole could earn some awards race love).
2. The Rest of Season 22
I'm sure the studio is happy that the six films left currently awaiting release feature three big budget films likely to make big money as they are all sequels to hit films: Caesar Part II, Fantastic Four: Doom and Batman: In the Shadows.
1. Odysseus - Part Two
I honestly didn't love either half of Odysseus. The first half released last season at least had some intrigue leading up to it, some novelty value and a little extra luster. That was gone by time Part Two was over. All that said, it still gets the top spot in the Top 3 because it was the only film to make any profit this round - and that's got to count for something in these trying times.
3. The Boy in the Suitcase
Too many characters and too many plot threads in this one. It wasn't god-awful, but it did feel like a very generic Scandinavian crime/mystery adaptation. Not even Vanessa Kirby's mostly solid lead performance could make me care about any of the characters.
2. Extra Ordinary
I really liked the premise of Extra Ordinary, and it started off strong, but it never realized any of its potential. At best, it felt like the first act of something more fun. At worst, it felt half-baked and unsure of itself. I didn't expect it to be a hit, but I also did not expect it to be the season's biggest bomb (and this was a season with a Wesley Campbell film!).
1. Box Office
Talk about a rough round at the box office. Round 8 became the only round where the studio lost money overall this season.
