Reaction: Considering the cast and crew were lacking in A-Listers, the box office of this one turned out pretty decently. Sure, we would have liked to make more money, but this one just as easily could have lost money.
"This film ranks somewhere in the middle of the Watchmen properties. Ellis' adaptation is an interesting HYFR adaptation with a Sharon Stone that's the standout and the likes of Manuel Garcia-Rulfo and Bill Pullman in award mode. While CGI is okay, and the director wasn't the one to bring it home, the story just brings superhero fatigue with its third act you see a billion miles away. Overall, it's the best Watchmen LRF can hope for." - Aubrey-Jade Mitchell, The Sun
"As a fan of the graphic novel, and even Zack Snyder's film adaptation, I wanted to like this follow-up to the comics. There is stuff that works, for sure (mostly the Rorschach II storyline), but there's more that doesn't. It all feels a bit too much like fan-fiction rather than an organic continuation for the characters." - Brenton Smalls, Playboy
"Manuel Garcia-Rulfo follows up his amazing LRF debut in Cocaine Cowboys with another intense performance that steals the show from more established talents like McKellen, Pullman and Stone. The only one who appears to be keeping up with him is Matthew Fox's take on Dr. Manhattan. The story itself left something to be desired at times as it tended to suffer when it focused on the legacy characters too much. James McTeigue may not be a sexy choice as director here, but I found he suited the material and influences of his past work with the likes of the Wachowskis, Alex Proyas and even George Lucas showed on the screen." - Cal Crowe, Washington Globe
Rated R for violence, language and some sexual content
