Reaction: The first Fantastic Four film was already a hit, and this sequel managed to improve upon the box office numbers a bit in every possible category, so there is certainly nothing to complain about.
"While still lacking in the action department much like the first film, this sequel was at least a lot more fun thanks to the team having their powers throughout and thanks to Orlando Bloom's performance as Doctor Doom. Hopefully an inevitable third film will offer more action and more for its characters to do now that all four heroes and their arch nemesis are all sufficiently set up in the Marvel Universe." - Roger Taggart, Chicago Tribune
"Fantastic Four: Doom is a minor improvement on its predecessor. It has a little bit more action although that could still be improved. Bloom gets to do a lot of scenery-chewing as Doom and Segel works well as the emotional core of the film, but the other cast members get stiffed a bit in the screen time and development departments - especially Reynor's Human Torch, who gets very little to do here. I liked the film, but I'd be lying if I said I wasn't hoping for something grander." - Brenton Smalls, Playboy
"Audiences expect big action sequences from superhero films these days, and that is simply something that has been lacking in these Fantastic Four films. Writer Mark Newton showed recently with Ghost Rider that he definitely knows how to write a thrilling action sequence, so I was disappointed that most of the action here felt generic and light-weight." - Cal Crowe, Washington Globe
Rated PG-13 for superhero violence
