Welcome back for another edition of A Second Look with Jeff Stockton! In this segment I will take a "second look" at a past LRF release with a fresh set of eyes.
Mo Buck made his return to LRF big screens earlier this season, so I decided to take a look at one of his more controversial releases, Obsession. Released in Season 7, the film tells the story of a murderous psychiatrist played by Michael Shannon who somehow manages to not go bankrupt. Some of you may recall that I had a lot of problems with this film when it came out. I applauded Shannon's performance, but questioned the entire logic of the story. Admittedly, I had more problems with the film than most did.
Taking a "second look" at Obsession, I still noticed those same logic issues with the overall story. I also think the film was missing someone for the audience to connect with. At least this time around I was prepared for the issues, so that softened the impact of the issues a little bit. On the plus side, there is some really interesting imagery.
