Reaction: Batgirl performed a good deal better than the first Batman spin-off, Grayson. Female superhero films (not about Wonder Woman) have historically struggled at the box office, so it was extra nice that this one did as well as it did.
"Batgirl's star, Madelaine Petsch, who's top-notch here, pushes the plot forward especially when it feels stagnating. I don't know if this is an attempt of doing the 'Hush' comic arc, but it should've stayed closer to the source material. I enjoyed the character's personal drama, but it doesn't make up for the movie's 'Meh' plot." - Laverne Hendry, ReelViews
"I'll admit: this one totally blindsided me. For something that could've felt like a second-rate spin-off, APJ and crew craft a twisted detective story in which Batman and Gotham City take a backseat for some Gordon family drama. Hush is a villain I wasn't sure would ever make it to the big screen but I appreciate the tweaks that were made to the character's backstory in order to give Barbara Gordon a solo film debut worth remembering." - Tom Lane, Detroit News
"Knowing fans expect big action from a Batman film, APJ has used Batgirl as a way to make a true Batman/DC Comics detective story without disappointing the more casual fan. Toby Wallace's villain is one of the better DC Comics Universe villain in recent memory, and the plot certainly puts star Madelaine Petsch to the test - and she succeeds. Batgirl is a very clever film with smart action and thrills." - Lois Reeves, Dodge City Daily Globe
