Reaction: We were hoping that the star power of Ryan Gosling would help propel this drama to box office success, but it came up much shorter than we were estimating.
"Collapse is so good for most of the story that I was able to forgive Mo Buck's script for not quite sticking the landing in the end. Ryan Gosling is obviously the stand-out in the cast, but he gets help from the supporting cast - especially Sally Field (although Justin Theroux was rather annoying). Collapse is a good drama, but don't expect to leave the theater in a good mood." - Brenton Smalls, Playboy
"For most of its running-time, Collapse is an engrossing drama about losing a loved one. Things take a turn toward the end though with some plot developments that that aren't entirely believable. Ryan Gosling does his best to make you feel for his character, but this only makes the character's late revelations more baffling rather than more impactful." - Dave Manning, Ridgefield Press
"Writer Mo Buck has chosen a very challenging story/subject matter for his LRF return. Ryan Gosling is willing to go to difficult places with his performance, clearly having faith in his prior chemistry with director Derek Cianfrance. Collapse can be slow, frustrating and illogical, but the actors and the script sell enough of it to work." - Cal Crowe, Washington Globe
Rated R for language, thematic material and some violent content
