Reaction: This probably wasn't the season writer Jacob Jones was hoping for at the box office with this and Jimmy Neutron both flopping at the box office. Next season, he'll also have three films that will hopefully fare a bit better.
"Idlewild Ranch isn't necessarily a bad film at its core, but it definitely doesn't utilize its talents properly. It all starts with the hiring of the Coen Bros as directors. The hokey, saccharine story could work with some other filmmakers, but it is a poor fit with their typically cynical and dark tone." - Dave Manning, Ridgefield Press
"With its talented cast & the masterful Coen Brothers directing, I was excepting something on the level of top-tier material. Instead, I have to say this may be the season's biggest disappointing film. I didn't feel like I truly got to know the characters, nor see the cast settle into them. In The end, the story seemed flat throughout, with its ending barely making an impact." - Avery Wendell, IGN
"While the tone of the film can be strange at times (and suddenly shift on a dime) and the stakes feel pretty low for a mystery, I found Jacob Jones' script entertaining in its own unique way. Billy Magnussen is pretty charming as the star as well, clearly having fun playing a good guy cowboy. The film was maybe a bit too neat in the end, but that's a minor problem for me." - Stephen Bonds, San Francisco Chronicle
Rated PG-13 for some violent content, language and thematic material
