Plot: Revan (Robert Pattinson), a Galactic Republic soldier, wakes up to find himself in the middle of a space battle onboard the Endar Spire, a large Republic Hammerhead-class cruiser. Revan tries to make his way off of the ship before it is destroyed by the Sith forces. Revan runs through the ship toward the escape pod bay, but is stopped by Darth Bandon (Ed Skrein). Another soldier opens fire on Bandon, telling Revan to keep moving. Revan runs into Carth Osani (Timothy Olyphant) in the escape pod bay, and together they get into an escape pod. The pod crash lands on the Sith-occupied planet of Taris. Revan is knocked unconscious by the crash landing. Carth carries Revan to the nearby Upper City to hide until Revan wakes up.
When Revan finally regains consciousness, Carth tells Revan that they need to find and rescue Bastila Shan, who Carth explains is the key to the Republic's war efforts against the Sith due to her Force abilities. Apparently she has the ability to give one side of an army extra confidence while confusing the other side.
Revan and Carth begin tracking Bastila's escape pod to the Undercity of Taris. At a cantina, the two learn from gang leader Gadon Thek (Michael K. Williams) that Bastila has been taken captive by a rival gang leader to present as a prize for the winner of an upcoming swoop race. Gadon tells Revan that he will sponsor Revan to join the race if he and Carth retrievea prototype swoop bike accelerator that had been stolen from him. Gadon tells them to find Mission Vao as she will know a way to the bike through the Undercity.
When Revan and Carth track down Mission Vao (Maisie Williams) she tells them that she will happily help them get the swoop bike accelerator, but that she will need their help rescuing her Wookiee partner Zaalbar who has been captured by slavers. The three navigate their way through the sewers of Taris until they reach the sewers underneath the slavers base. Revan heads up through the sewer and sneaks behind the slavers and frees Zaalbar (Daniel Cudmore) from his cage. The two hop down into the sewer. Revan tells everyone to start running. The slavers give chase, but Mission and Zaalbar know their way around the sewers and lose the slavers. Zaalbar, through Mission's translation, swears a life debt to Revan for rescuing him from the slavers.
Mission leads the group deeper through the sewers toward the location of the swoop bike accelerator. They find that the base the accelerator is located at is being guarded by a Rancor. Mission sneaks past the Rancor and grabs the accelerator. She is spotted on her way out by the beast. Carth holds off the Rancor by firing with his blaster until Mission has made it back to the sewer entrance. The group then head back to Gadon's base and hand over the swoop bike accelerator. Gadon tells Revan he can use the accelerator in the race in the morning to ensure that he wins so he can rescue Bastila.
Revan takes his seat in the swoop at the start of the race. The racers zoom through the streets of Taris. The racers are chased by the authorities, but they outrun them easily. It's between Revan and another racer in the end. Revan activates the accelerator, sending him blasting toward the finish line as the winner of the race. The group celebrates, but the gang leader won't hand over Bastila Shan (Hailee Steinfeld) as promised. A fight breaks out between Gadon's gang and the other gang. In the chaos Bastila manages to break free from her captures. She escapes with the rest of the group.
Having rescued Bastila, the group begins to look for a way off Taris, but there is a Sith blockade they'll have to get past. As they are brainstorming in an abandoned apartment in Upper City, a messenger arrives to tell them that Canderous Ordo, a Mandalorian mercenary, wants to meet with them at Javyar's Cantina. When they arrive, Canderous (Vincent Cassel) proposes that they steal the Ebon Hawk, a freighter ship belonging to his employer Davik Kang, who is in charge of the criminal organization The Exchange on Taris.
Canderous takes Revan and Bastila to meet with Davik Kang (Christopher Meloni) at his estate. Canderous recommends Revan to Davik as a mercenary for hire. Davik shows Revan, Bastila and Canderous around the estate, including showing them his various ships, including the Ebon Hawk. Davik excuses himself to handle some business. The three then proceed to sneak onto the Ebon Hawk and start its engines. Davik calls Darth Malak (Dominic Cooper) and tells him that he knows the location of Bastila Shan. Malak orders Saul Karath (Jeff Daniels) to bombard Taris in order to keep Batila from escaping the planet.
In the Davik's ship hangar, Canderous, Revan and Bastila are confronted by Davik and the famed bounty hunter Calo Nord (Sung Kang). They fire at them with the Ebon Hawk's blasters, killing Davik and leaving Nord buried under a pile of rubble. They fly the Ebon Hawk to Upper City and pick up Mission, Zaalbar and Carth. Canderous punches in Sith broadcast codes, which allows them through the Sith blockade. The group watches helplessly as more and more Sith ships descend on Taris.
Bastila tells the group to set the Ebon Hawk to fly to Dantooine. She tells them that there is a Jedi Enclave there where they will all be safe. Bastila pulls Revan aside and tells him that she can strongly sense the Force within him.
