Thanks to Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic we finally have the first big hit of the season, but that's not all that's going on. Here's The Roundup....
3. Kindred
I didn't love Kindred, but I think that the film more, or less, accomplished what it set out to do. Whether people respond to that is another question entirely, which in this case they didn't seem to.
2. Elle Fanning
It's great to see her headlining an LRF release again. I did not enjoy The Reign of Lady Morgana, but Fanning did what she could with the lead role and despite the film's failings, still comes across well.
1. Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic
I had some problems with the film, but I do like that despite its shameless attempt at telling a multi-part film, it still had its own smaller beginning, middle and end. The film was also anchored by some particularly strong casting, a trait I've come to appreciate from Roy Horne's films.
3. Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic
SW: KOTOR still makes the Bottom 3, despite being a solid film overall, due to its aforementioned shameless attempt at a multi-part film. This first film feels far smaller and incomplete than other Star Wars films as a result.
2. Ava DuVernay
I honestly can't say I've particularly enjoyed anything Ava DuVernay has directed. Her lack of subtlety has begun to wear out its welcome, honestly. She's technically proficient behind the camera, but her storytelling instincts and work with actors are a ways off.
1. The Reign of Lady Morgana
I've seen the movie a couple of times now, but I honestly couldn't tell you exactly what this one was about. Elle Fanning and her friend have car trouble in the desert, but then they somehow stumble upon a lakeside castle ruled by a scenery-chewing Charlize Theron. I honestly just don't get it.
