It was rumored following the hiring of writer Roy Horne (Flash Gordon, Kite), but it is now official, the sequel to the Season 9 box office hit, God of War, will serve as a soft reboot. The first film was written by Carl Flimmer (God of War, Resident Evil 2), who after the film was ravaged by critics chose not to return to write a sequel despite it grossing over $400 million at the box office. The studio then met with several writers before hiring Horne. The follow-up, currently going by the title of Kratos: God of War, will reportedly be set before the first film and will not have any connections outside of franchise star Tom Hardy (Kingmaker Chronicles, Mass Effect 3 - Part 1). All other roles will be recast and the studio has even decided to not bring back director Duncan Jones (God of War, Driving Around the Time). Hardy, Horne and Last Resort Films president Phil Dolan are reportedly already meeting with potential directors for the new film which will hit theaters next season.
