At some point he receives a series of messages on the phone .. "Can i come over", "I need you", "I want you". She smiles and shakes her head saying "No no no ..". A few seconds later a noise catches her attention and she goes to check but everything seems calm. At this point she writes "I told you, it's over." A moment later he receives the reply "And i told you to never leave me again!". She is confused by the word "Again" and a moment later receives some of her photos while she is at home sleeping or taking a shower. She has a frightened face and looks out the window. At this point other noises coming from the living room attract his attention. A moment later, hands strangle her.
Subsequently a woman, Charlotte Carter (Sienna Miller) is at the computer and is writing a romantic novel about a young widow in love with a man with many years older than her. She is still in the first chapters and we see her writing several sentences several times and immediately erasing them puffing complaining of her creativity. Charlotte is an English literature teacher at Jefferson High School and in her spare time she is trying to write that novel but seems to have got stuck. At some point she closes the laptop disappointed. Shortly afterwards, he leaves the house and goes to a bookshop. At one point while rummaging through the books on the shelves, she is approached by a young and kind boy who proves to be very intelligent and interested in literature. He introduces himself by calling himself Chris (Dylan Sprayberry). Seeing Chris' interest in literature, she says that she would like her students to be so interested and both laugh. Chris seems to be very interested that Charlotte is a teacher. Chris asks if he can offer her a coffee and she politely refuses saying she wouldn't be comfortable spending time with such a young guy. He laughs and asks her how old he thinks he is. She says 22-23 and he manages to convince her to make a friendship date. At this point he writes his number on a tissue and hands it to her saying that she was not forced to call or write to him and then she leaves. Charlotte is on a break with her boyfriend Scott (Logan Marshall-Green) who is an independent photographer and is in a somewhat complicated period and this meeting with Chris seems to have really shaken her. She's impressed that someone that young is actually hanging around a physical bookstore instead of either not reading at all or ordering everything from amazon.com . Then she meets with Jessica (Lizzy Caplan), her best friend and roommate and tells her about this meeting. Charlotte says she is undecided whether to accept despite the boy's proving to be really cute, kind and intelligent. After talking to Jessica, Charlotte makes an appointment with Chris at a local in the area. As soon as they said goodbye she receives a phone call from Principal Stephenson (Allison Janney) who says that he has left important documents for her on her desk at school. The evening goes well between the two, it's fun and at some point Charlotte is also partially drunk. He convinces her to go and get the documents together and she accepts even if she is not too convinced. Once in school they enter. She greets the cleaning lady (school would begin shortly) saying why she is there while he is careful not to be seen. At the point she takes the documents while he closes the door. He strokes her hair and then kisses her. She is very excited about him because of alcohol and the boy's behavior and they have sex on the desk. Then the two say goodbye and she goes home. Charlotte goes to bed and thinks about those moments and is unable to sleep. It is early in the morning and Charlotte is still in bed and receives the call from her ex-boyfriend Scott who reveals some new work to him and invites her to go out together. She replies rudely saying that she remembers her only once in a while. Meanwhile Jessica laughs at the way Charlotte responds. Then the woman tells her friend how the appointment with Chris went. Both are surprised that it really happened but then they chuckle at what happened. Afterwards Charlotte goes to the laptop and starts writing her novel again, this time with the right inspiration while the camera shows her smiling face. The next day school starts again after the summer holidays and Charlotte goes to school greeting her colleagues including Principal Stephenson and Deputy Principal Morris (Gary Cole) who proves bizarre in behavior and a bit of a bad mood. Next we see Charlotte doing a lesson on "Romeo and Juliet" but the students don't seem very interested, indeed they ask if they can watch the film rather than read the novel.
At some point she receives the communication that a new student would join the class and finds herself in front of Chris. She is shocked to find the boy in front of her since she thought she was about 22 years old. She, still a little confused, introduces the new student to everyone and then gives him her hand. He says smiling "I already know your name Miss Carter." At the end of the lesson the somewhat nervous woman asks Chris to stop for a moment. He tells him that he has nothing to say, he has to attend school and will not tell anything unless he is forced to. He says it all kindly. She is worried that she went to bed with a minor but he reassures her that she is 18 years old and could not be prosecuted. Then she says it's all over between them, that she and her teacher and puts the boundaries between them. Meanwhile, we see that vice principal Morris is listening to their conversation with an interested air behind the door. Morris then asks Charlotte to follow him because he wants to offer him a coffee because he sees her tired. Before leaving the room, the boy tells Charlotte that he made friends with a girl named Shannon (Brighton Sharbino), a very popular girl in school and she likes it very much. Meanwhile, he points to the girl who is talking to a best friend Nicole (Maddie Ziegler) near the lockers. Charlotte nods with a smile and leaves the room with Morris. Charlotte thanks and remains surprised by the kindness of the man who is usually rude. Arriving at the coffee machine he tells her that he has heard the conversation with the new student. She is taken aback by this and tells him that she has heard badly and that in any case there will be no problems of any kind and then she leaves. He calls her chuckling saying to fasten all the buttons of the blouse. Then we see Chris sitting on the steps outside the school with Shannon talking to him. He looks distracted and in fact is looking at Charlotte's photos on Facebook or Instagram on his phone with a smiling face until he finds the one where he kisses his ex boyfriend and Chris immediately changes expression. At that point Shannon asks him if something is wrong and the boy puts the phone away and reassures the girl. Meanwhile in the corridors two boys are arguing and Charlotte intervenes to divide them, one of the two pushes her causing her to fall to the ground. At that moment Chris arrives who resolves the situation by slamming the two boys on the wall and scares them. In the evening we see Charlotte in her home as she thinks back to that night with Chris and we see her expression that for a moment smiles and almost gets excited with those thoughts. At that moment Chris calls her, Chris asks for more from her, and when she clarifies that he won't have sex with him anymore he accepts and Charlotte hangs up. At that moment Jessica arrives and invites her to go out with her in the local area. Meanwhile Chris is in his apartment with a fairly tense face that hits a punching bag and then leaves the house slamming the door. In the club Charlotte receives the phone call from her ex-boyfriend and goes out to answer leaving Jessica alone. Seconds later Chris approaches her with compliments and says his name is Frank. Meanwhile, Charlotte goes to her ex (who is in her study) thinking about Chris with a strong excitement in it. Scott lets her in and she takes him by the shoulders and kisses him. Then they have sex, Scott is very happy to find Charlotte like this sexually active. In the morning the two greet each other with a kiss and the woman goes to school. Then we see Scott who is working in his studio and is joined by Chris (who says his name is Jeremy) who first compliments Scott for his work and says he is a young rich software guy interested in buying some of his art photos and he says he would call him soon. We then see Charlotte at school and Chris arriving late. A few seconds later the end of the lesson hour struck and the teacher picked up the boy for arriving late. The boy always in a calm voice asks the woman if she has had a good evening. And then he approaches Charlotte making compliments and trying to caress her hair. She says no and rejects him but they are seen and stopped by the vice principal who says that first he tells Chris to go and then in a slimy and shabby way he tells the woman that the next day he will tell everything to the principal Stephenson. She tries to convince him not to do it by justifying herself and saying that if this thing comes out she will probably be fired and will not teach anymore and she almost starts crying. Meanwhile Chris is listening to everything outside the door and his face is visibly angry. Morris had replaced Principal Stephenson that day because she was engaged in an out of school meeting. It starts to get dark and we see Morris going to his car when he is approached by Chris. Chris asks how he is after the death of his wife the previous year. Morris is surprised to hear these words because only a few people know about that mourning. At this point he slams the professor's head on the wall and then pushes him into his car while the camera shows a gun in his pocket. They go to his house, kill Morris and stage his death as if it were suicide. The next day Mrs. Stephenson informs the various classes of Morris' suicide and we see Chris smiling while he is near his locker. During the morning Shannon asks Chris if they could be studying together. Chris accepts and asks if they could be at her house. But she says no because her parents do not want boys at home and with difficulty she convinces the boy to study in his apartment. After school, Nicole and Shannon continue together to Shannon's home. Meanwhile, they joke and make predictions about what will happen later between Shannon and Chris. The two go up to the room and Nicole advises her friend on how to dress and behave. Then Nicole comments on what happened the previous month between her and the football team captain. The two friends say goodbye and Shannon goes to Chris' house.
Shannon arrives at Chris's apartment and rings the bell. Inside the house, the boy tries to lock the door of his bedroom but the lock seems to have problems. The boy rolls his eyes saying "Fuck". Then she goes to open the door with a reassuring and welcoming face. The girl compliments the home and the cute furniture. The two sit by the table and after a while the girl says that perhaps they would have been more comfortable on the bed. But Chris says no in a firm tone and that you can't go to the room. The girl is confused for a moment for the tone used by the boy. Shortly after the bell rings. Chris looks out the window and then comes out (they are technicians who are looking for a house nearby). Meanwhile, the girl gets up from her chair and tries to browse the house. Taking care not to be seen, try to open the bedroom door. The only thing she has time to see is an entire wall covered with pictures of Mrs.Carter. At that moment she hears the serious voice coming from Chris from behind her. The girl apologize stammering that she was looking for the bathroom. At this point Chris jerks violently and slams the girl's head on the wall and she falls to the ground with with her head covered in blood. Then he climbs onto her and strangles her saying that he has told her not to enter. Later Nicole writes many messages to Shannon without receiving an answer.
In the evening we see that Scott and Charlotte are having dinner in a restaurant. The girl is still shaken by the death of her colleague while Scott seems to be understanding and kind until suddenly he gets up, kneels and offers an engagement ring to Charlotte and asks her to marry him asking for forgiveness for past mistakes and saying he loves her lot. The girl is moved and accepts and the two kiss. Meanwhile, we see Chris outside the restaurant watching the scene angry. Back home she shows the ring to her best friend who starts jumping happily. But then Charlotte reveals all that is going on with Chris as Jessica cheers her up. The following day the news spread of Shannon's disappearance. Nicole asks Chris if he knew anything but he says sorry that they had studied together and that he had said that she would return to her home. Nicole doesn't seem particularly convinced by Chris's words but she says nothing. Then we see Charlotte who is at school and correcting homework during the break. Chris joins her with a sandwich. The woman politely refuses but when she sees the sad face of the boy she decides to accept. She asks if there are problems and he bursts into tears saying he is lonely and reveals that he has been an orphan for a few years and that he has no relatives who can help him.Furthermore, he says that he is sad also because it seems that Shannon seems to have disappeared. Seeing the young man's tears, despite being a little hesitant, she touches his shoulder as a sign to cheer him up. He tells him that he is in love and she immediately pulls his hand away saying that he must forget about her and showing the engagement ring. The boy goes away saying if that's what she wants and then congratulating Charlotte. Chris telephones Scott asking for an appointment to talk about his project. The two are together and then Chris asks if he wants to go have a beer with him and Scott accepts. After a while Chris goes to the bathroom and a dark-haired woman approaches Scott. He's never seen before and she approaches him and kisses him. He assures her that he's not the guy she was waiting for, but in the meantime Chris, lurking in the back of the bar just out of Scott's eyeshot, he photographed the whole thing with his smartphone. Then Scott goes to Charlotte's house waiting for him with a sexy dressing gown. A few minutes later, as long as I'm on the sofa, the woman's cell phone rings. The woman looks at him and sees the photos where Scott kisses the other woman. The woman immediately moves and immediately asks Scott for information, raising his voice. He tries to explain himself by saying that it is not what it seems but she, who was at the bar with a boy and a woman he did not know, kissed him. Charlotte does not want to listen to him and first slaps him and then sends him away screaming throwing the ring on him. Meanwhile Chris looks with satisfied face at the man going away disconsolate. During the night the woman cries and in the morning she decides to react. As long as he is in the mirror he is putting on his makeup, he receives a message from Chris. She throws the phone on the bed screaming to leave her alone. Then she looks around imagining that maybe Scott might have met Chris. She goes to Scott and shows him the photo of Chris and Scott recognizes him. Then Charlotte tells Scott everything that happened with the young man. Scott is quite shocked that she had sex with someone when they hadn't officially split up yet and mostly with a student of hers and sent her away. Charlotte goes to school arrived and tells Chris to follow him. She tells him that she found out about the thing she did to Scott and that it's ruining her life and scolding him hard. However, he remains calm and smiling wishes the woman a good film. Next we see the woman who is in the classroom to show Romeo and Juliet to her students. Then, in a class during which Charlotte is supposed to be streaming the movie of Romeo and Juliet from the school's library server as part of the course during which she's teaching her students the play, Chris has managed to hack into the system so he can show the secret sex tape he filmed of himself and Charlotte having sex in the classroom, (you see a very short flashback in which he puts a small camera until she is turned to take the documents on her desk) and so not only do the students in Charlotte's class get to see her and her hottest student humping each other on her teacher's desk, so do the administrators, including Mrs. Stephenson. Students whisper, some chuckles and others are surprised by the hot video. Charlotte is upset. She is summoned immediately by the principal who tells Charlotte she's suspended without pay until the case is resolved, and Charlotte decides to investigate Chris's background herself. She finds out Chris's home address. He goes to Chris's house and finds the back door open and enters slowly. We see the house carpeted with a myriad of photos of Charlotte and find an almanac from Chris' old school, Washington High School with various photos of another blonde woman inside and also a necklace. He goes there, says he is a teacher and tries to inquire about Chris.
Nobody seems to want to help her until she talks to Natalie Proctor (Rachel Bilson) who when she hears the name of Chris Williams immediately changes expression and asks why she asks for information about him. Charlotte tries to explain herself but Natalie stops her saying she knows what happened. She tells of her colleague and dead friend (the woman at the beginning of the film). Charlotte pulls out the necklace and shows it to Natalie. Natalie recognizes her immediately and Charlotte tells where he found her and says that it was probably Chris who killed her. Then from the school archives he finds that Apparently Chris has made it a habit of seducing all his teachers - or at least the ones with blonde hair - which began when his parents died when he was 4. He was run through various foster homes and was all too aware that the adults raising him regarded him only as a paycheck ... until he got to first grade, where his teacher, Ms. Martin, who looked and sounded just like Charlotte except she wore her hair in a ponytail and spoke with a Southern accent , became the first person since his parents died to show a genuine interest in him. But the bad thing is that she got into trouble with the child abuse law. Charlotte's thought is that The business that in getting his teachers to have sex with him Chris is reproducing the one pleasant memory of his childhood (however distorted it may have been). Charlotte runs away and telephones Scott saying to be careful because Chris is very dangerous. When the call ends, we see Chris who comes out behind Scott and hits him with a bat making him pass out. Chris joins Jessica, punctures her on the neck and ties her in a chair, while Charlotte goes to Scott and finds him passed out and immediately calls an ambulance. Then she receives a video call to Charlotte (who is returning by car) and shows her that Jessica has the gun pointed at her temple and that if she does not go there she will die and says not to call the police. .He tells him I'm at school. Charlotte arrives there shortly afterwards, almost crying. The two have a confrontation in which she slowly approaches him saying that they will stay together, buy a house and live happily. The boy is almost dazed and the woman snatches the gun from his hand and gives it to his face. Chris also falls to the ground, slamming on the corner of the chair. Charlotte frees Jessica who meanwhile has begun to awaken and they run away. Chris however gets up and tries to find them, albeit with his face covered in blood from the deep cut on the head. Jessica hides in the bathroom with the gun while hearing a woman softly calling Chris's name. The boy arrives there and finds Charlotte near the stairs who is turned and shows her ponytail and speaking in a candid voice with the accent of the South. Chris is ecstatic and starts calling Ms. Martin. Meanwhile from behind Jessica hits him with a fire extinguisher and while trying to get up Charlotte takes her gun and shoots. Later we see a few weeks after Charlotte who finished her novel (she switched the ages of the two protagonists) and takes it to a publisher. And then we see Scott waiting for her next to his car, curious to know how the meeting with the publisher went. The film ends with Chris in a psychiatric hospital while he is looking at his blonde-haired therapist with a psychopathic look.
