Reaction: Not a huge hit, but we are happy that it was a profitable film (even if barely) considering the number of big budget box office bombs on writer Meirad Tako's resume. He can rest easy knowing this one didn't become another Alternative or Evangelion. The R-Rating probably didn't help matters much either.

"There were some fun moments in Mr. Earthling, and Bale and Elba are strong in their roles. However, there are some fairly big flaws. Georgie Henley seems completely out of her depths acting opposite someone with the skill of Christian Bale, and Alan Arkin feels wasted in the minor role of the Emperor. I didn't hate the movie by any means, but I'd be lying if I said there weren't some odd choices made with this production." - Jason Helm, New York Observer

"Christian Bale gives an energetic lead performance, but the tone ends up a bit too bizarre for my liking, especially when you factor in the soundtrack. I couldn't tell what moments were supposed to be taken seriously and which were supposed to be high adventure." - Brenton Smalls, Playboy

"The tone is all over the place, but I suppose that's part of its charm. Director Neill Blomkamp has made off-beat sci-fi before with Chappie, and writer Meirad Tako scored acclaim with his macabre and twisted Hotel California, but this film doesn't pull off the tones that those ones managed quite as well." - Mark Rawls, Seattle Times

Rated R for graphic violence, sexual references and some language
