Definitely a varied round in terms of the films in theaters. Let's take a look at The Roundup....
3. Christian Bale
As usual Christian Bale committed himself to a performance in Mr. Earthling. It's far from a perfect film, but with someone less capable in the lead role the film might have been a complete disaster.
2. Mr. Earthling
Now on to the film itself... I couldn't always figure out what tone the filmmakers were going with. Some scenes were dead serious or shockingly violent, and then others would be kind of goofy. At least I was never bored though.
1. Crush
This film had no tone issues. It was clearly, from the opening to the final shot, meant to be a cheesy thriller. While not exactly my cup of tea, I think it nailed what it was trying to do.
3. Box Office
A far cry from Round 3's box office, even with the high gross (but low profits) of Mr. Earthling. After the DC films so far in the first half of the season, I'm not sure I see many sure thing hits in the second half of the schedule, which is a concern.
2. Timothee Chalamet
Clearly he has been typecast and the films he is cast in are going to suffer for it. Somebody is going to have to find a role that isn't an angry, brooding young man for him to play before it's too late.
1. "We Are the Champions"
I was mostly on board with the soundtrack choices in Mr. Earthling, but when Queen's "We Are the Champions" started playing I found myself angry and unable to focus on the film at hand. I would argue that the song is the worst thing Queen ever out there, well, along with its single B-side, the mind-numbing, brain cell-killing "We Will Rock You" - which is actually probably an even worse song now that I think about it. Please God, nobody put that on a soundtrack...
